The staff at ||board are willing to run a board though, as opposed to here where nobody wants to step up. It's really better for this board to just die, and for the users to either go to ||board or JUL.

I'm sorry, but I don't agree with the way things work at ||board, so I'm just going to remain at JUL. A lot of the people who are still here and don't like JUL would probably be more at home at ||board. It works out.

Besides, if this board closes down, there'd no longer be a community split. JUL wants nothing to do with this board, and you've all considered it xk's community anyway, and ||board is ||bass's community, or #nobodysworld's community or whatever. Two completely different communities, so this is definately a bonus.

it's a legacy name from 2005, it's been planned to change to Jul sometime soon

I'm sorry but it really seems like everyone is forgetting about the ROM Hackers. As in the people who don't give a shit and came here instead of ||board because ||board let shit run loose, and unless Xk is handing out flyers again, they're still here, and as long as certain parties would keep to themselves, there would be less drama for them to have to care about (that they'd get five big spoons of at justus) as well as less flaming and trolling (ditto at ||board) while being able to just hack and show what they do.

Before two days ago I can't think of anyone who just wanted this board to die, openly, at least. Now all of a sudden its living past its due. For all the people who aren't concerned with these politics its as if someone just knocks on their door one day and says "Hey, you can't live here any more, your house was torn down yesterday."

It isn't the only board for ROM Hackers, there is still RHDN, and specialized places such as SMW Central, all those sonic community boards, and whathaveyou, but this is the board that a lot of rom hackers are used to visiting, where a lot of people first learned how to do their thing, and etc. Some people are just so used to visiting it that they keep doing so without realizing it, kind of like me with zophar. Others just like the look and feel.

If bandwidth is really so important and activity drops to a screeching halt you could always give the board a truncated appearance kind of like pixelation, but I'm not seeing the point.

Seriously, if we were all sitting in a room in real life, I doubt any of this drama would ever have occurred.

What I do have to say about the "flaming and trolling" at ||board is that 99% of it is done in humor. It's the kind of place where you either belong or you don't. You need thick skin to post there, but if you've got it you'll enjoy it.

I would sort of like this place to stay a little serious, actually. ||board meets all my hilarity / craziness needs already.

I'm not saying the flaming etc. isn't done in humor, but a lot of people just don't care for it. I don't post there for the same reason I don't post at justus, I don't feel the need to.

It's not just hip, it's trendy! I guess you missed all the ten-billion-and-a-quarter Funpic boards, SomethingWitty/GG, Fireboard, SMWCentral, whathaveyou -- it's the new thing.

And on that note, what's wrong with rhdn? The idea would be to just keep a link there for people who are ROM hackers, whereas Zophar just kind of died without providing an alternate.
