Probably give it a try someday.

I was very close ordering it once even, when CD's with Solaris on was offered for free. I didn't caught on that offer though.

Uh, no.

If anyone would care to impart some knowledge, what the hell is Solaris?

It's a operating system by Sun, somewhat recently made "open source" (under some license I never heard about before...) too.

So it's a laggy Windows emulator.

I'm staying away from that.

Grey Mario learn to google before asking stupid questions.

I thought about looking into Solaris multiple times, but as far as I'm concerned Sun calling Solaris the "most advanced OS" is the same as Microsoft calling Windows Vista the "Most secure and bug-free OS." Solaris seems very business-oriented, though, something that you shouldn't really bother with unless you use it in the workplace.

Giving us no information about your hardware makes it even harder for us to know why Solaris is not working for you.

Besides Sun, the only place I know that solaris is being used is at UC Berkeley, in the computer science department. Sun donated a lot of hardware for instructional use. As a result, the department is "obligated" (i.g. required) to use Solaris on those machines.

Solaris is another unix-based OS with Sun's personal tweaks to UNIX that make it ideal for using a computer as a terminal server.

University of Nebraska also has a nice supply of Solaris servers going in our CS department...
