So... I finally got the internet, and as the thread states, it's dial-up. But ya know what? It's not as bad as I thought it was... It's WORSE!!! This is so damn horrible that I know I'll have nightmares about it tonight (lol) But seriously, I mean really?!?! A 32 MB video file (4 mins long) taking 8+ hours!!! That's just terrible! Ugh... anyone else stuck with a crappy 50.6 K connection?

It's funny, because after re-cabling my house, my Internet speed has virtually doubled, oho~

Oh yeah, sorry, dial-up sucks. Right.

We still used it at my house until about two weeks ago.

Doesn't really matter to me, since I'm a wireless leech anyway.

There was no broadband infrastructure in my neighborhood until a few weeks ago. Until a few days ago when the DSL was activated, I was using 512kbps satellite service that cost almost 50USD/mo and had normal ping times of over 1000ms.

Dial-Up sucks... which is why I got super-fast internets! And the downloads are practically unlimited!

I would, but i doubt the old people that live beside me have a wireless ISP lol. Or ANY ISP for that matter... Then again, if I had a laptop, I could always go to a hotspot like McDonalds or something. Hopefully I can get broadband soon and a laptop by the year's end (I got a job and start training Tuesday.) So, how is clearwire's connection/reliability and stuff?

I'm so glad I have a cable internet connection, I remember the days of dial-up, it was a nightmare. Nobody could call you while you where on the internet, if someone in your family decided to pick up the phone you got disconnected... If someone called while on the internet you got disconnected.

I have been using Russian dial-up with ancient impulse-dial bipolar wires for the past two days since here, some 600km east of Moscow, there's nothing else anyway.

Current speed is around 0.4KB/s, as for the pings... well...

As EP said, I've got 56K at home and at a worse speed than you.

26.4k.

Suck it up, it could be worse. I do plenty of things with my crap connection and I use it more often than most people use their DSL...which helps that I have it on all the time and use my phone line for something nothing more than that cause.

And the reason I have it when I could -more- than afford a DSL or cable connection? Location.
