Your porn lives to please another day.

Fear not, fragile woman! I too once lost a technological best friend. Overcome with grief, a blood frenzy overcame my senses and to this day I know not what happened to her shapely body. All that was found of her was her hard drive-- nay, her very soul!

My porn lived on.

If you must weep, then weep! but also rejoice in the fact that something lived. That something survived!

There was a failure on the motherboard.

And I don't have any porn on the hard drive, but I did have some work on there that I wanted.

There was a failure on the motherboard.

I thought the thing was destroyed by your ex-BF or whatever during a violent fight... or did it survive that?

It survived that, but took some minor damage.

I think some important chip somewhere died. Funny, all the CPU and Video looked ok... if unreadable from heat...

CPU, Video, etc

Motherboard

The fault was certainly something "logic board" (motherboard) related, but I couldn't find scorch marks or anything.

Peculiar...I have had only two motherboards die, and they were Dell (both shorted out )... does the unit not start at all? If it does, is there any kind of diagnostic you can run that would return an error? ._. or is it just fried.

It doesn't start anymore. On turning it on, the fan starts up loudly, and no picture on the screen. Then all you can do is turn it off by pulling the battery out.

If you are lucky you would get the Apple logo to come up, which would then start to be overtaken by magenta, black and cyan vertical lines until the screen is covered. Again it had to be turned off by taking the battery out.

It would not load the Hardware Test, it wouldn't load anything. When discussed with Apple techs, everyone said "yes, that's definitely the logic board".

So I salvaged what I could, took photos of the rest.

I kill keyboards

And I nicked a key as a keepsake.

Ooo I see...so then, there was little hope of saving it after all. That is always too bad. But at least your hard-drive and other data was saved. Spare working parts are always useful to have around too! (well, you never know..)

I don't often look at pornography, but when I do there is no need to save it to my hard drive. With the rise in internet speed, etc, Pornography has become a consumable, there isn't any need to horde it.

We'll see how that theory survives when the internet is dead and all you're left with is smelly fat guys like Jeff.

Indeed, though I personally do not horde pornographic materials myself, it is a good question of what would one do in the event that the Internet ceased to exist!
Certainly no one wishes to be caught in the act of purchasing... certain materials.

Tarale wins the discussion.

Besides, saving porn is like saving cat shit. It's pointless, you can always get more later.

Apparently you're too dumb to comprehend what the hell having not internet means.

Hmmmm, a massive heat sink. If it's not too late to try this I would try cleaning off the top of the graphics chip completely along with the heatsink, putting some glops of thermal paste in the center, spread it around so it coats the top of the chip evenly. Also make sure the fan is working properly, it could just be overheating. Also if the heat sink isnt making proper contact with the chips, they could be overheating as they first starting up, causing the problems you describe.

But if it was allowed to overheat for too long then it might have cooked the chips, assuming it was overheating at all.

Also an interesting article on the PMU and how to reset it.
