The VC data saved to an SD card is SAVE DATA only. Namely, a save state is stored onto it. (...)

I think you missunderstood something there.

The VC-Data is the data, you copied to it, it's not always the save data, if yoou copy the channels, you only copy the channel, and not the save data.

The save data can be copied, but not the save states.

Makes sense to me. My mistake. But, I was on the right track. Still, all those "games" floating around out there on the internet are only game saves and nothing else. Useless data, until someone (never) cracks Nintendo's encryption.

Why do you think it is this way? When I save the Channel to my SD card, it copies the game data to the SD card, and not the save data.

Or how would you explain that my game is back in the Wii menue after copying to SD card, erasing in the Wii Memory and then copying back?

Or did I missunderstand something.

well... KP was talking to me about Kadohachan having some sort of ides of an exploint on the wii. I might want to talk to him about it. Lately though I've been coming up with crazy Ideas like getting two completed files of the same game and comparing them to find the differences in them. I'm not sure if it'll do much but it's worth a try.

tanks, simply put, you're not going to hack the wii by hosting your own files or comparing them.
the wii uses atleast AES-128, and you will never crack AES by low level logic analyzation.

i got really excited too when i first was experimenting with wifi back in february the moment i realized i could host my own content delivery network and have it work fine. then i realized that the TMDs serve as a content thumbprint with all the checksums of the files, aswell as a digital signature by nintendo. it's a good way to cache games you want to purchase for quick downloading, but it will be useless until the encryption keys are known along with the checksum algorithm, and compression format.

i have found some overflows on the wii's menus, but due to the menu architecture they're very difficult if not impossible to exploit. it's going to be some simple thing that leads to wii homebrew, like the mp3 selection menu on excite truck by putting in a billion MP3s onto an SD card causing it to overflow in an exploitable manner. *cough* hint *cough*
