Been without internet for 4 days. Apparantly I missed something big...but meh.

Tip: Never call AOL for help.

Tip: Upgrade that fossil! You've still got dial-up? Man, that must suck. AOL Broadband is way better but I still prefer Verizon DSL.

Tell me about it. I'm on Netzero now, and we're getting high speed within a week or so.

We would use Sympatico but now that we have a router, it makes things less of a pain in the ass.

I got something similar from NetZero:

"Right-click on the firewall icon"
"Okay..."
"Now select 'security level'"
"Uhh, that's not a menu item in this version of my firewall"
"Select 'security level'"
(Geez, I'll just open the program.) "Okay"
"Click on 'application permissions'"
"Okay"
"Check to make sure NetZero is an allowed program"
"It is"
"Does it work?"
"No"
"Right-click on the firewall icon..."

RRRRRGH!

...It turns out I had to disable the firewall's proxy service, which I only found out after contacting McAfee.

I don't remember if we got our money back from calling NetZero or the few months they still billed us after we cancelled.

Good luck if you're getting rid of AOL.

Oh hell. Hopefully that crap won't happen to us.
