Well, I finally got around to making a demo of it. To think, it started off as a bit of me goofing around, and it turned into this. I'm proud of it so far.

New features include:

-Custom Music, ported by me except for the title screen
-A block or two
-Coins! Get 100 and get a 1-UP. Isn't that incredible.
-Stuff you probably wouldn't even care about

Wasn't that an amazing list?

And two screenshots. Ignore the line at the top.

Feel free to post feedback

Well, I just played through this, and I thought it was awesome. Puzzle-based levels are a welcome change from normal avoid-the-enemies levels. The music was also a welcome change from the normal music. I usually leave the volume off when playing SMW hacks, so it was nice to leave it on for once.

Suggestions:
-It plays fine in zsnes, but it freezes up at random times in snes9x.
-In the Caves of Legato, the red shell disappears when you try and take it though the first pipe.
-In Chopin's Stronghold, you should increase the contrast between the solid parts of the level and the non-solid vertical pillars. It was sometimes hard to tell what was solid and what wasn't.

That was fantastic SNN. Superb job. Super smooth level design. Great comments at the beginning of the levels. The music! I had no idea you were capable of changing the music like that. Great song selection too. Super Mario RPG songs add such a great feeling to the gameplay. I really love the tileset too. The cave one really stood out as great.

I agree with Boourns on the contrast between the solid and non-soild pillars. It was a little weird thinking that I was glitching through em. Also that last level, Chopin's Foyer..I got some nasty slow down. Mostly on the far right part of the level.

This is one of the best SMW demo hacks I have ever played and I eagerly await future updates. As well as your YI hack of course

Thanks for the feedback all. Much appreciated. I said numerous times on SMW Central that I made the first world short as an intro, but I already have plans to make the second world longer and more epic

As for the solid/non-solid pillar stuff .. I'll fix that, no big deal. It's straight out of YI, and that's how they did it though .. but I'll see what I can do.

Rich: You are talking about the shrine with the key/spring part. I will fix that. Also, good point on the power ups - I was actually thinking of putting two power-ups (keep the second one in the item reserve box) and then disable the whole "enemy-getting-hit-makes-item-drop thing"

Also, I have screeny of the second OW in it's early stages for those interested:

Thanks everyone.

This hack, if it had 8 worlds and was complete, would take about 45 minutes tops to complete, due to the shortness these puzzle levels are. However, one once said life (or in this case, fun factor) is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but the moments that take your breath away. And this hack is amazing, and all 45 minutes of gameplay would be worth it.

SNN, this hack already looks (and sounds) beautiful, I can't wait to play another demo! Or, if another demo isn't realeased, the full version! And I think it's neat that you used musical terms for level's names, like legato, verdant(e), allegro, and chopin. I'm lost on the word cobalt, maybe it's just not musically themed? Now I'm just waiting for forte, staccato, and andante. The names go hand-in-hand with the new music, too; I'm supposing that's why you named the levels like that.

And the music is nice, it's refreshing after all these years of strictly SMW or SMB3 music (with the exception of d4s's Mario Twins mp3 import) to hear some music from other games, like Kirby 64; it couldn't be easy to compose all that. Splendid job.

This hack has serious potential! Keep up the good work, and it will be up there with the best ones like SDW:TLC, and Anikiti's hacks! (etc.)

Oh, and my only complaint would be the YI pillars that you CAN pass through, in the castle, sort of clashing with the forground that you CAN'T pass through, and I second Rich's comment on lost powerups; something should be done to fix that.

Well, I did say numerous times that the levels will get longer - I mean, theres only so far I can go with length before it just turns into an average SMW hack, but I plan on increasing the difficulty of the puzzles so you actually have to think - that is where the length will come in, and that is also the main reason I killed the timer in this hack.

As for the names, Verdant was meant to mean "green" and cobalt "blue". The main worlds will be called by the musical terms, but theres only a certain amount of names I could use before the theme dries up - so I mixed in a few fancy color terms in there too

And due to the large complaints about the pillars, I guess I had better do something about them, heh.

I like the world 2 map, but I can tell that each of those sparkles are the same tile. You know there are four tiles with sparkles? Mix them up so it looks more natural.

As for the demo, I won't mention the YI pillars again. You already know that. At first I didn't realize that I'd lost all my power-ups but when I did, I realized that you had to do that so people could cheat on the puzzles you made. Plotwise, as for why Mario loses his power-ups, you should maybe address that. Maybe Bowser had someting to do with it?

Actually I'm starting up a sort of storyline for the second world (it involves Beethoven, because, y'know, I'm keeping with the theme) so I may address something about that.

Awsome hack!
The music is great at most places.
(The starfox music do not go to well for a water level ;/ )
Levels where short, But indeed funny!
Can't wait for harder puzzles.
The GFX is matching the team well so far.

Great work S.N.N.
I'm looking forward to this hack! >;D
