It depends what you want it for, really.
For a portable laptop it's really going to suck. 17" is really unwieldy and will drain your battery very quickly. The "HD" display is a bit misleading. Lots of common, run-of-the-mill displays have HD capable resolutions. As a desktop replacement it's slightly better, but I'd gladly trade something for a better graphics card. There's not a lot of new games that would run as they were intended on it. Personally, if I were looking for a portable I'd go for a Macbook for the battery life and the much smaller size. OS X is also configured to get the maximum out of your battery- so it'll last an awful lot longer. If I were looking for a more permanent machine, I would invest in a very small Dell machine with a bigger monitor and a better graphics card, dual-booted with Vista and Ubuntu for good measure. You can expand a desktop dell, you can't do that with a Macbook or an ordinary laptop. Your money stretches much, much farther as well. Make sure you choose very, very carefully with laptops. They're much harder to change once they've come to your door. |
