So...who actually finished it?
Spoiler:

I was going to wait in line, but instead chose to buy it today; started reading at 12:03, finished at 6:42 PM, with a thousand piss breaks, a candy bar for lunch, and a dinner break.

As far as its content, what is there to say? It wrapped everything up nicely. I wasn't exactly shocked by any of the deaths (besides Hedwig), and the way Rowling wrote about Remus and Tonks...I dunno, it didn't hit me that hard. Fred though was tough, or was it George? Fred. I had a feeling one or more of the Weasley's would die, but it didn't make it any easier.

I was mildly annoyed with the amount of sitting and waiting; it seemed like there was too many passages where Harry and Co. just sat and brainstormed, then moved to another place without any real development, but that being said I'm not complaining.

I was relieved that Harry, Ron, or Hermione did not bite the dust, but when I read that Harry had to die in order to defeat Voldermort, I wasn't really that...well, choked up or anything. I was uncomfortable at the thought, but I had a feeling things would work out.

I laughed, I cried, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading, and now...I must start life without a HP book on the horizon

I lawled for a full minute at that icon. Fuckwin epic A++++

Aaaaand I just finished the book. It held my interest, and I enjoyed it overall, but it felt like there is something odd or missing. I liked Harry Potter better when it was more about whimsy and less about serious business. Deathly Hallows came off like some magic-flavored cross between Star Wars and the Zion battle in Matrix Revolutions. I knew that the serious business would have to be wrapped up spectacularly, and the book handled this OK, but it felt strange to read a Harry Potter book with little of the slapstick humor and cheerfulness I enjoyed throughout the series.

Stylistically, I think the books were lacking. Good of her to tie up loose ends though.

This book blew all the other books in the series totally out of the water in terms of its awesomeness. This is by far my favorite one now! I always thought the whole harry is a horcrux theory was kinda dumb though, and when it became clear they were doing that, I was wondering how the heck that would work and him still managing to come out alive somehow (I did read the last sentence just because I wanted to know what the last word in the book had changed to and it was enough to give away that lived, but that was the only spoiler I read beforehand), but they managed to make it work quite nicely. Wormtail's life debt seemed kind of anti climatic though. All this time you think its going to be some major thing and then its all over in 2 second not really accomplishing anything except to say "okay, the life debts paid off now". But this book did an overall extremely good job of ending the series.

I've not had a chance to read ANY of the 7 Part Harry Potter saga as I was reading up on two others - Part 11 of Robert Jordan's The Wheel Of Time (Knife Of Dreams) J. B. Jenkins' Left Behind XIII Kingdom Come and Eoin Colfer's Artimes Fowl III The Eternity Code. So I am a bit behind at the moment. Eventually I might read Harry Potter after I finish these but I'm undecided right now.

I finished it yesterday, and I loved it. Wrapped up beautifully. I'm going to miss not having any more HP books to look forward to.

I thought him martyring himself was a sad but good ending. Then he came back to life, which I immediately thought was lame. But J.K. did it pretty well, so I'll let it slide.

As awesome as that would be without the scribbling at the top... it unfortunately has that scribbling at the top.

Okay. Now that I've read the book.

This is how you were supposed to spoil the book:

Hedwig dies, Voldemort flies, Harry is a horcrux.

See... two shocking early bits that both spoil things and make sure people believe you once you read them. Then one late huge detail to ruin the rest of the book. THIS is how you do it people.

Also: her writing is still wooden. Harry and Company are idiots because it took them half a year to think of doing any of the things I thought they should do within the twenty minutes it took me to read half of the book. The Harry Horcrux bit was lame, and could've been saved damn easily if somewhere in the book she said the killing curse worked by ripping the soul out of the body, but she didn't. The last few scenes are horrible fan service. And Harry is a womanizer.

More like,

Hedwig dies, the trio lives, R.A.B is Regulus, Snape is with the order, Harry is a horcrux, Voldemort dies.

That pretty much sums up the whole book.

Actually, I think it's Voldemort flies, Hedwig dies, and Snape took the page bearing Lily’s signature, and her love, and tucked it inside his robes. Then he ripped in two the photograph he was also holding, so that he kept the part from which Lily laughed, throwing the portion showing James and Harry back onto the floor, under the chest of drawers….

I did not perceive the page as important at all until it was pointed out Snape took it...

Snape actually being with the good guys all the way was obvious enough... although I initially had the suspicion that the whole locket thing was a trick by Voldemort and the locket they found in the middle of the pool actually was the Horcrux... it would be the perfect method of hiding it. Well, I guess Voldemort just wasn't smart enough... or, one could reckon, a fictional character can only be as smart as its creator...

I see your point there (and also the obvious gibe at Rowling), but Vold was ALWAYS... not exactly perceptive of things. I mean, he let Harry screw up his plans numerous times. (examples: Conclusion of Triwizard Tounament (to kill Harry), the Mirror of Erised thing (to obtain the Sorc stone)) That alone shows he had little foresight in the first place, and never really gained any

I'm glad I didn't read the 18 years later bit, or whatever it was.
