Ok guys, I tried releasing this once before, but since roms aren't allowed here, I couldn't. Unfortunately, I didn't have a clean SMW rom to create a patch from... My bad. =P However, I did get a clean rom the other day, so I decided to give releasing it another shot.

Unzipped IPS patch
Zipped IPS patch

I can't promise that the patch will work, because I got the rom from a pretty sketchy source, but I figured it was worth a shot. Now, the thing with this hack is that I started working on it again, and have an unfinished level after the first save spot. I figured since my last release was a failure, I'd let you preview this newer level as a bonus.

Screen Shots -

Setting up the story...

Yes, yes, we all like springs. Springs of magic and happiness, or something faggy like that. This is Level 105. It's come a fair way.

SMB3 pipes. It took a lot of effort to get 'em in, cause I suck with SNES hacking. These are Fu-So-Yah's pipes, as I found them easier to get in compared to Mikey-k's.

Again, level 105, and I'm still carrying that spring. =P

Beware of the shyguys, they'll kick your ass. They don't like intruders.

Again, watch your ass. Not that you really need to. =P

Lakitus, Goombas and the blue no-shell koopa have been replaced with cobras and shyguys. The cobras spit those spiky things.

Why do I always carry those damn springs around? Anyways, another pointless screenshot, but a screen shot nonetheless.

Ghost Field. I'd say it's a rather original idea, but I don't know about that anymore. It was quite original when I created this level, and very well recieved based on screenshots alone. I hope the level satisfies.

I don't know why I screenshotted here, but here's a screenshot, regardless.

Getting through here is as easy as it looks. Depends on your skill.

Here's the overworld that everyone loved. I ripped these graphics for use in an overworld for my Sonic hack, an overworld that never made it passed the drawing board. So, I used them here. Graphics ripped from FFV.

And here's that new WIP level that I started recently. Those who followed my Sonic 1 hack at Sonic 2 Beta will recognize this art. I've scrapped the art out of the Sonic hack for now, so I'll use it here. I'm aware of the broken tiles and all, and I'll get to fixing that.

Other features that don't quite get the justice they deserve in screenshots include:
The koopa's don't come flying out of their shells when stomped on, and the yellow one will turn into a super shell when he recovers.
Smashable bricks. As can be seen, I didn't go for the animated look.
Yoshis tounge is longer. His tounge segments don't quite fit together anymore, though. I'd fix that, if I knew how.
minor exgfx changes
Sonic the Hedgehog (and the bombs from Star Light Zone in Sonic 1) make a small appearance, though not in the way you'd expect. Just figured since I'm using my own Green Hill Zone, I'd throw my fanship in there. =P

Download - Again, as stated up top, I can't promise that these patches will work. I'll put them back down if you got too crazy for screenshots and skipped my first paragraphs. =P

Unzipped IPS patch
Zipped IPS patch

Comments, criticism and the like are welcomed, so fire away. Just keep in mind that the overworld is supposed to look as crappy as it does, and that Neo Green Hill zone isn't finished yet. Also, please realize that the item box in a few of the screenshots is screwed up. However, in the game, it's fixed up. I think I may have screwed up the top row of some backgrounds by fixing that, though.

First off, I remember seeing screens of this hack on the last incarnation of the board. Nice to see you're still working on this.

The screens look nice. Some seem empty or boring, but that's probably because of WHERE you took them. A few things-

1: The Ghost Field background.... A minor palette problem on the little ovals in the hills. They're supposed to be a lighter color than the hills themselves. ;P
2: Why not use SpriteTool for some enemies? It'll let you use Shy Guys without sacrificing other enemies, like Goombas or Koopas, and you can even use Spear Guys with the latest release. I HIGHLY recommend you check it out...

Eh, can't think of anything else to comment on right now. I'll check out the hack itself a little later. But right now, good luck on it.

Looks decent.
I don;t like Ghost Field's BG palette.

Hmm, fixing the dots on the hills would require messing with the other colored hills, so I can't really "fix" that, but I do agree with darklink, the palette is in need of a tuneup. I'll see what I can do.

EDIT: It's awesome to see someone remembered it, too. ego+1. *shot*

EDIT2:
I'm still trying to keep a dark and ghosty feel, so I went with this:

Is it any better than the last one?

If I recall correctly, Xk was gonna bend that rule for complete overhauls so large that the entire ROM, or most of it, was changed.

Screen Shots -

Setting up the story...
Bowser's

Yes, yes, we all like springs. Springs of magic and happiness, or something faggy like that. This is Level 105. It's come a fair way.
Nothing wrong here.

SMB3 pipes. It took a lot of effort to get 'em in, cause I suck with SNES hacking. These are Fu-So-Yah's pipes, as I found them easier to get in compared to Mikey-k's.
The pipe's shading is on the wrong side. Also, there's no H in FuSoYa.

Again, level 105, and I'm still carrying that spring. =P
Are you so blind as to miss that fish in the dirt?

Beware of the shyguys, they'll kick your ass. They don't like intruders.
very funny.

Again, watch your ass. Not that you really need to. =P

I just now noticed that in most of these shots, you've got garbled graphics in the item reserve. Fix that, please.

Lakitus, Goombas and the blue no-shell koopa have been replaced with cobras and shyguys. The cobras spit those spiky things.
Spinies. You might be better off having the Cobrats spit little walking fireballs...

Why do I always carry those damn springs around? Anyways, another pointless screenshot, but a screen shot nonetheless.

May wanna turn the Cobrats red through custom palettes.

Dear god those background colors are ugly.

Here's the overworld that everyone loved. I ripped these graphics for use in an overworld for my Sonic hack, an overworld that never made it passed the drawing board. So, I used them here. Graphics ripped from FFV.
Nice. Redesign the Overworld Mario sprite when you get a chance.

Nothing to say here.

All in all, might be pretty good. I'd have to play through it to find out though.

That fish just bounces forward, going through dirt, cement blocks and etc...

If you want to make the Cobrat red, change lakitu's (the one that hides in pipes) palette with Tweaker so he uses palette "C".

I was wondering what happened to your hack. D: Personally I don't think your old GHZ tiles don't fit. I'll give you other crit on AIM cause I'm lazy, once I get AIM back on that is. -.-

There.

I also remember seeing screenshots of this hack, the screenshot with the warning of the ShyGuy tribe.

Looks nice, though I haven't got much else to say...

Alright, I've reworked the palette for ghost field, to give it that night feeling. Pretty much everything except the sprites has been darkened or otherwise changed. Here are two screens to show the new palette:

Is it any better than that freakishly pink one I had earlier?

Verily yes. Much better, now just darken the background a bit more...

Change sprite palettes (make them darker), they don't match all that dark colors.

Okay, new direction I'm taking this in. I've completely started over, meaning everything is gone, overworld included. I started fresh because things were getting severely disorganized, which happens after an 8 month break. That, and I wanted some custom music. Anyways, on with some new screenshots:

New title screen. The basic idea is that Mario is going to liberate several kingdoms from Bowser's evil rule. I haven't decided on the number of kingdoms yet, but I've got 5 names down already. I haven't set up a new title screen demo yet.

In comes the basis for the storyline. I plan to have a knight on horseback standing next to Mario to say what's in that text box, cause the world that I am basing this off of is set in the age of castles and nights in shiny metal armor.

Here's the first world, Ocean Shire. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? This is the first level of Ocean Shire, named "Coastal Cliff" or something like that.

And again, a bit further into the level.

Much further into the first level. This part of the level is a vertical one.

Which pipe leads to the way out of the vertical part of the level?

Here's the second level, named "Ocean Shire". The trees were ripped from Knuckles Chaotix, and I only put them in cause I realized that SMW has crappy trees by default. =P

Further into the second level, this pipe will lead to a bonus room. The ground cuts off at the end there cause this level is still a work in progress. I haven't finished the layout yet.

Basically, the idea behind the kingdoms is:
Ocean Shire - Tropical/Volcanic Island
Cordona - Tropical/Generic
Waterson - Generic/Rocky
Hedgeton - Snowy/Mountains
Maddon - Generic/Forest

Those are the basic ideas so far, and will be subject to change.

Too bad the trees' style clashes horribly with the rest of SMW.</serious> Don't you think the sprites clash enough without the tileset joining in?
