So there ya go. We FINALLY fucking get a sequel to an amazing side scrolling shooter. It would have been awesome to have a FPS instead but I think the DS will let it keep its classic edge.

Thoughts/Comments?

Well I've known about this for some time. There's a video out there somewhere. It looks OK... but It's got that GAP between screens. I like the idea of online play. I'm hoping for Coop mode though.

Looks like a true sequel to me. Even the graphics look like they are from the originals.

Heh...it was even in the first issue of NP I got as of Subscription #7 (Or something like).

I just hope it's Wi-Fi, since standard Wireless won't work. (No opponent within NaKN miles)

...I remember, about 4 years ago, I was a beating Easy difficulty in ContraIII without losing a life...in 30 minutes.
Yeah, I know, not that much of an accomplishment. But I did it on the actual console and not an emulator.
Don't ask me why I didn't level up, I'm not sure even.

For those who don't know, virt is composing the music.

(he's done tons of remixes and stuff out there of various games)

Insanely awesome.

No freaking way! That's awesome.

I never really got into Contra. Played a bit via emulation but it wasn't something I'd play many many times. I may get this when it is out, but there are many other games that have priority over this such as PPL and Pokemon Battle Revolution. Even if I decide not to get those games, I dunno about getting this one. =\

Oh man. The helicopter's back. And the DOG.

Looks interesting... I'd like to try this out. The graphics give me a nostalgic feeling, mostly due to the fact that I used to play Contra III a lot as a child.

WayForward have to put in a better effort than they did with Ping Pals.

(Then again, they also did the underrated Shantae...)

Looking very promising so far.

So I tried out III again. First, I played the US version. Limited continues = no good for me. So I then tried Contra Spirits, the Japanese version. Infinite continues, but the boss after the brain-thing exists in all difficulties. Or, at least in Hard and Normal...

I think I might need just a little practice...

Ok, now what difficulty was this again?
Like I said before, I used to be able to do Easy in one life and 30 minutes.
The "H" gun is my preference.

I remember there was supposed to be some hint about a "minigun"...false?

It you think Contra 3 is hard then you should try Hard Corps (the Genesis game).

Normal. I might try Easy, though... I can make it to the final boss just fine, save for continues here and there.

H is good, but two C's and mashing X while holding Y on boss = very deadly. F's also good, since it can penetrate walls.

I think that L's the worst, though. It's good on the two top-down levels, but... It's just not fast enough. S is pretty decent, but it isn't best when you're fighting off one enemy.

I was able to get to the third level without dying on normal, once... Then I died. But even then, Stage 3 is my favorite.

Probably because of its variety in the stage compared to other areas, maybe?
Running -> Climbing Evasive -> Climbing Boss -> Wall Climbing Evasive -> Wall Climbing Boss -> Wall Climbing -> Running Boss -> Jumping (Inf.Score Area) -> Gap Jumping -> Boss -> Final Boss
Erh...something like that.

I played that game recently. It was bloody awesome.

First level is pretty cool. Could be more exciting.

Second level is not that great. I don't like the overhead ones in this game. The other levels do all sorts of things to mix it up, but the overhead ones are pretty uniform.

Third level is really cool. You do all sorts of over-the-top stuff, you fight a boss across a huge chunk of stage, and the final boss is just awesome. As soon as you finish fighting off robot twins, it rips the wall open and goes crazy zombie robot on you. Awesome.

Fourth level is bloody fantastic. The first part isn't that great gameplay-wise, but it is the obligatory motorcycle stage, and sets up the rest of the level amazingly. You go from riding a motorcycle to hanging from a helicopter to hanging from a missile to JUMPING FROM MISSILE TO MISSILE WHILE KILLING SOMETHING. Also, the boss of this level is the only one in the game where my top choices of weapons suck.

Fifth level is better than second, but still meh.

Sixth level is pretty good. It's kinda obligatory boss rushing though. 3 and 4 are still the peak of this game.

...and the best two weapons to have are H (use all the time) and F (use if things are not dieing fast enough (bosses)). Both of these weapons suck against the end boss of level 4 though. So pick something else up for that.

Yes. I love FPS's, of all genre's. But like I said, it keeps the classic edge with the game as a sidescroller.

I was beginning to think, "Oh christ, don't let it be some 3d bullshit sequel." but I was pleasently surprised that Konami would stay true to its original 2d format.

Contra III was badass. Right off the bat you start off with a machine gun with unlimited ammo and the fast-paced gameplay with awesome visuals never fail to entertain. Bam! Aliens all over the place. This game is HARD but well-worth it. If you can get a hold of it on SNES, you won't regret it.

I hope Contra IV can live up to the same run and gun gameplay as III.
