So I have a Nintendo DS, silver. It's not a lite, and I don't intend to get one soon unless I can be proven that it's better.
Until recently, the DS had been playing games nice and smoothly. When I try to play Mario Slam Basketball, I find there's a few odd issues. It seems to get mixed up with things, glitching up. Touch screen losing calibration, and a hell of a lot more.

In fact, the whole thing died on loading up on me just now. Two white screens, nothing. Anyone else had any similar problems as such?

On my brother's DS (non-lite), the buttons spontaneously die and then later work again, this is especially common with the L and R buttons...

I myself have a Lite and have had no problems with it, though.

I bought a DS Lite about 6 months ago, and the only problem is the R button. It works, but you have to push it......differently for it to work. Instead of pushing down, you have to push from the side.

I've heard of the problems with DS [Lite] shoulder buttons. Dust and dirt get on the contacts for those buttons, then make it hard to use them.

You can either take it in to someplace that will try to fix it for you, or open it up and clean the contacts yourself. If it's still under warrenty, I highly suggest not doing the latter.

Yeah, I've had problems with my old DS, too. Touch scren sucks, DS games won't be read, and there's probably more that I can't remember

I figure it would cost around 50-70 bucks to repair my DS Lite.(so I read) If I took it to a game store, I could trade it in for that much money, and just buy a new one!

So basically, spend about 50 - 70 for a new one.

Wait... shouldn't it be free if it's under warranty? At least, that's what I've heard.

I wasn't offered any kind of warranty. That would've been nice though.

Check up for a Manufacturer's Guarantee or something.

My Silver DS has the only Problem that sometimes he doesn't read a DS Game or GBA Game. Saying that nothing is in it.

My GBASP did the should-button fuck uppery occasionally, but I forgive it. It went into a pool once and there is no ostensible damage beyond a funny chlorine smell.

However, all things considered, I've heard nothing but praise for the obscene durability of the DS - given its more complex nature.

Sometimes my DS won't read a game, but that seems mostly to be dirt on the carts, because I take them out, blow on them, put them back in, and they work fine.

Well, some contacts on carts corrode if you blow on them... not sure about the DS ones though.

It's not much, but it adds up eventually...

Really? I suppose it makes sense, I remember seeing warnings not to blow on carts... could the same thing happen to the cart slot in the system itself?

I got my little brother a Lite for Christmas. He likes it ok. I don't. At all. It's just too small for my hands, I'd cramp up pretty badly if I played on it for very long.

My DS works just fine. I have both a lite and a SUPERCLUNKERLOL. I like the lite's bright screen better, but the dpad isn't as good, and the sound is a little quieter. Oh well, I usually don't find that much.
