I had joined #dragonwhatever to ask about why MB was banned on a server that allows bots without reason. I wasted an hour waiting and eventually left with a sarcastic message. Anyway...

Needless to say after this (and Millybot: see quote below) ... I'm pretty much ready to leave.

Currently considering a) EmuNET all over again, b) Deltaanime, or c) Djbouche's.

a) EmuNET: I'm not sure about the longtime stability of it. We'd probably be able to customize it somewhat (I'd hope, with Emuz on it), but I'm not sure if it'd last, and there'd be no users but us.

b) DeltaAnime: I just don't like this network in general. To stay connected I have to constnatly ping myself, as well as a general distaste for the network in general.

c) DjBouche: I also dislike the bot names here (japanese instead of just "ChanServ"/"NickServ"), and the stability of it also worries me (but not nearly as much).

Shrug. Opinions?

Oh, and:

No, we do not discuss ANYTHING with third parties. If you don't like our policies, use another IRC network.

I got this when asking about why MillyBot was banned:

Ban message:

No bots on democles

Site:

Democles.esper.net: Bots: Friendly bots allowed

But aparrently they don't like people calling them out.

Needless to say, I'm ready to move.

Well, I would go towards emunet, with maybe a backup channel for emergencies on another IRC network. I'm not fond of Deltaanime, and DjBouche's is the least stable of them.

Also with emunet we set the rules as well. As long it doesn't lead to a new forge-tits, we should do fine.

I would agree that a new server is needed- EMUNet seemed to work alright at least in the beginning, maybe it's worth a try if we can find a few good servers...

I'm leaning away from B, mostly for the same reasons as yours (sans pinging.)
Options C or A sound good, though. Also, they way the ops seem to be handling this reminds me of a smaller server I go to. Except on this server, there's a grand total of one op (Brian) who constantly harasses a channel I go to. So that server (Initialized.org) is out of the question, as far as I'm concerned.

EmuNet sounds good. It doesn't matter that it's only us since it's not like we have public channels now anyway.

I was just about to suggest initialized, since SMW Central's channel is there (as dead as it is...). I have no idea about the social workings of the network nor do I care, so seeing whatever channels move there would agree with me.

From what I hear about initialized now (from Hydrapheetz)... I'm not trusting that one either

In the short time I've been there I've already been force-joined to some crap channel...

So I tried to be reasonable with the Espernet people and got this (apparently he thought I was Xk for some reason).
"Your ban is for five days, and it wont be a second shorter. You are RUDE
and your fabrication of the truth is disgusting.

You felt the need to insult the administration of this network, "20:10 <
laptuna> nice to see the admins here are really on the ball" and you can
deal with the consequences. Don't like it, don't use our network."

Edit: He also completely ignored my question about MillyBot.

EmuNET'S stability was in direct proportion to the other servers we had. Our bandwidth and stability on my personal server varied because of the connection at the time. Needless to say stability will only be indicated in us, but it should be much better than before.

As for it justing being you guys. That's all well and good but the network can grow as long as new people come in and new channels are built.

One thing I was thinking was it just being (for now) two servers, maybe yours and blackhole89's (if he's up for it), just with different IRCops (blackhole89, me) handling the user side of things...

That way you would be relaxed to just network maintainence if you wanted. I just don't want a massive network explosion (here's 7 nodes for 56 users, we'd all better get IRCop status too) like last time and we can keep the IRCop status undre control; two should be omre than enough, especially if it's bh89 and I since we're ususally on at opposite times.

I'd just rather not approve anyone who has a server to join the network unless it's needed... before, like I said, we had probably 4-7 nodes and many, many IRCops, which was far too much for the small network we ran.

After seeing what XK got banned for, espernet sucks. That was hardly offending, it's like the espernet equilant of erkdog... angry at people for no reason.

I am going to be very restrictive, and I am on the same page. I ment let's get users not servers. Two starting out is quite a bit. Assuming blacky jumps on board.

Well 95% of the users on the IRC server we're setting up will be from Acmlm's, so having Xk/bh as ircops + 1 server/network/whatever = perfect.

well, in this case, scu did wrong g because some of the users spammed other channels. One of the users go killed for 30 days and he didn't do anything.

One of the guys went to the #Dragonweyer channel and got the same kind of response as Xk, only without the ban.

#rom-hacking is considering moving to irc.darkmyst.org. There's a few pros and cons there, but I haven't gone there myself. Apparently, nickserv doesn't support linked nicknames, so you'd need to register each of yor nicks seperately.

Second, chanserv has to actually be inside the channel, but it has a few more features than esper's chanserv.

Dunno. Since I go to #rom-hacking as well, I'd appreciate it if I didn't have to connect to multiple servers.

Either way, I never have problems with espernet. The netsplits don't bother me that much.

Anyway, whatever server we decide to move to (if we move), I'd also appreciate it if it allowed connections on additional ports other than 6667, because I can't seem to connect to irc servers on port 6667 when I'm at school. I have a feeling I know why and how to fix it, but just to be safe...

That's going to be an inconvenience for quite a few rohmackers but meh.

More features = good. But how are we supposed to get it into the channel ...?

That's not why we're moving (at least, it isn't the main reason, more of a secondary reason).

Don't most IRC servers have that?
