How do you think Sega would react if we sent them this on a cartridge?
Maybe they'd put it on the VC xD

Anyways, still looking forward to the finished product and perhaps Shadows ability should be something like walking for a short time on air after walking off an edge if a certain button is held down. Its reasonable.

Hey, I was just wondering... Have you tried giving Shadow a Chaos Control ability? If not for warping ahead, at least it could be used to check out what's in front of him, past the camera's view... Or it COULD warp him, in case you fell into a it or something. (But it'd probably have to cost Rings....)

When I first read this thread, it blew me away. I wasn't here for this hack's debut on the previous board(I tend to bounce from one community to the other, not very good at staying places. bleah)I expected a level hack, but this is just amazing, features from the later games incorporated into sonic 1 = great idea. The level design looks really good also, and from the way the sonic games play, it's probably a bit more difficult to make good levels for them than, say Mario. I have just one question; why Mighty? He just seems an odd choice for another character to me. Wonderful job though, this looks the be the "Mario Adventure" of the sonic games, and that's just from the videos.

Well, I haven't made any updates in a while. Here's a vid of Starry Night, act 1.

Also, as a teaser, I've ripped a VGM of the speed shoes music, for those interested. You can get that here.

By the way - Megamix is VERY close to release. Keep your eyes peeled for the next public release!

The level looks amazing and once again it has some cool new music to go with it (although I could swear I've heard it before. Sonic 3 two player mode?). Keep up the awesome work

It looks to be coming along quite nicely. That video is awesome, I have but one problem, and that is Shadow's max-speed running animation, it just doesn't look good. Maybe it looks better when it's not all squished to fit into a youtube box, but it doesn't look all that great. Otherwise, awesome progress, looking forward to the release.

I figured it is because of the frames and size of the youtube video, but yes, he looks like she is shuffling or something.

Shadows running sprites don't seem like hes running much, and the level seems that you'll require the super forms to get through it, and I didn't get that feeling of it being as fun of a stage as Act 1 gave me. >:

Yes, he doesn't look like he's really running

Past that, Scene of Carnage from Columns 3? Finally that game gets some love

Right, the next release is ready!

Some highlights from version 3.0:

- All level layouts edited (some complete; others pending)
- Each character now has a unique set of moves (though Sonic and Shadow share homing attack)
- Most levels (not all) have a small intro, ala S3K, where they perform some sort of action when starting the level. i.e, running in from the left.
- Shitload of music edits
- There is now a "preferences" screen, where you can customize certain aspects of the game (suggestions are welcome)
- Cheat codes have been changed - figuring them out will grant you access to a new, special level select (which is a bit buggy - just don't hit left/right on zone selections =P)
- "Original Mode" allows you to play the original levels from Sonic the Hedgehog, using all of the additions from Sonic Megamix (such as bugfixes, moves, preferences, etc). There is also a seperate save slot for a character's original mode.
- Title screen demos have been edited. Credits demos have not.
- Super forms have been added.
- Elemental shields, ala S3K, have been added.
- Credits have been edited; each character has a unique end pose on the ending sequence.
- Various other changes. See the Wiki page for more info.

This is, pending future changes, considered a "complete" release. Future changes are planned, but not assured. More information can be found on the Manual/Wiki page, located here: http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_1_Megamix

Comments and suggestions are entirely welcome. Bugfix releases are entirely possible, so if you find what could be considered a vital "bug" (and not, say, an error from using debug mode), it may be fixed in a future bugfix release (though personally I'd like to avoid making too many of these).

So, without further delay, the download link: http://www.fileden.com/files/15774/Sonic%201%20Megamix%20v3.0.zip

Enjoy!

EDIT: I've made a small bugfix. Please redownload if you've already grabbed it.

YAY finally I have been waiting for this a long time Tweaker thanks, I will look into it right away!

[Edit]: This have all stuff that made the first few sonic games great, Plus tons of new stuffs! Extremely good game play too. I wont lie I suck at sonic games but since there is a lot of rings even common players like me have a chance! Great job!

Oh and I found a glitch, If I use that move that allow me to charge rings and there is a wall next to a ring I can get stuck inside a wall.
Also some lava polls are hard to get up from in zone 2.

Folks, *this* is how you make a hack. It's not too easy, but nor is it painfully difficult; it's got a great curve going for it. It looks good, sounds good, is a blast to play and does a ton of new things.

Superb.

THIS IS THE HACK I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!

Well, this and that zelda LTTP hack that was suppose to be released but was scraped but other than that.

Tweaker, I don't know if you remember me but I pop in on a rare time to speak my mind. (I was the one who pissed stealth off by pointing out everything wrong with his Knuckles in Sonic 1 hack)

Like I've told you in previous releases, I won't go as far as I did but would like to firstly add that 5C in sound test crashes the game.

There are several (too many to point out) where Sonic is able to go through walls and not because he's going to fast.

PLEASE don't get the wrong idea.
I LOVE THIS HACK.
I don't know how to hack.
Probably not going to learn.
I'm not worthy.

Just get'n that out of the way for the uber's out there who were planing to point the obvious out.

Again, Thank you Megamix Team and I'm sorry Stealth.

Ok, I've added my 2 cents. Now back into the shadows.

This is a very good sonic hack, but I noticed theres alot of places you can go inside the walls in Sunset hill, specifically over any of the S shaped tunnels

oh yeah, the fireball sheild in the second level thats guarded by spikes that cause instant death? I don't really like that...

The graphics are good, and I like the palettes.

haven't tried playing as might yet, or original mode, but I'll definitaly go after those.

and the green hill remix in sunset hill act 3 is awesome, plus I love angel Island in act 2.

you've inspired me to start sonic hacking! (not like my SMW hack was going anywhere anyways)

Amazing, simply Amazing...

The spikes could be lowered to make sure the player understands he can't just duck below them and be safe... That'd be a bit clearer.
