No no, the new model is the same price as the old one.
And yes, they took out the chip that does backwards compatibility because obviously they are trying to save/earn money in every way possible. It's funny, I watched a video on Joystiq today where the head of SCEA said that PS3 was dominant and that they are running the PS2 and PS3 both for coming years so that they have a double market. Every time he was asked about the Wii or the real reasons why the system is doing terrible, he simply said some utter bullshit about their "10 year strategy" that is completely irrelevant to the question. He did that THREE times. Sony fucking sucks. Wii/DS print money. PS3 eats money. 360 is in the middle. ____________________ I miss post headers more. |

9 developers have said it so far, including SEGA, makers of Unreal Engine, Capcom, and several others. The PS3 is extremely picky and hard to make games for. Even then, it's been proven that the 360 can hold it's own better then the PS3. New football game that's coming out? It will run at 30FPS on PS3 and 60FPS on 360 because they cannot get the game to run as fast as the 360. The PS3 sucks. They tried to fool everyone by silently pulling out their 7 core processor and putting in 7 small memory cores for the processor to utilize. It is no more powerful then the 360, and the games/lack of games suck. ____________________ I miss post headers more. |

Actually it IS a pity with Sony's PS3 and its features, but it's entirely their fault.
As thwe PS2 still was new, their tactics worked: Holding the price up pretty steep a long time (in Germany it was about 800 DM/400 Euro a longer time), but I think, it was a major difference from the graphics step-up between PS1 <-> PS2 and between PS2 and their newest console. The question is: If there was no Nintendo Wii and no XBox 360 before the PS3 first, would the console have had much more attention/customers than now, or was it "only" the huge price, missing enough top games ? Sony needs to come down from their self-claimed (and -earned, at least in the past) throne. Actually it is in a lone room and full of dirt. If you check out the graphics from Wii games, you'll notice, that graphics is not everything to make good sales. Forza 2 (see thread in this forum) looks very nice, too. I have nothing against Sony and even still want to get a PS2 some time, actually if I have enough time to (re)play all those good games I missed. But if I had the money, I rather would either buy a Wii with some games or maybe an "old" PS2 with some more games - but Blu-ray, hard disk and such ... nothing that draws me in really. |

It sucks because, Kojima announced today that the new price drop isn't going to stop MGS4 from going multiconsole. Oh wait, you guys didn't know that? Yeah.

I seriously think their 10 year plan is one of the funniest videogame related things I have ever heard.
Go ahead Sony, keep the PS3 out there while Nintendo has their Omega Nintendo System and Microsoft has the Xbox 1080. |

Bah... Sony must be nuts. Ten years is very difficult to achieve! I'll try to make a list of what did and didn't on some systems, between the first regional launch and final licensed retail commercial game for any region's version of them.
Famicom/NES: July 1983 to December 1994 = Yes. SFC/SNES: November 1990 to sometime in 1999 or early 2000 = No. PSX/PSone: December 1994 to October 2004 = No. Dreamcast: November 1998 to sometime in 2006 or 2007 = No. Original Game Boy: April 1989 to sometime in 2000 or 2001: Yes. I'm pretty sure the Atari VCS/2600 and home (not counting arcade) Neo Geo games lasted over ten years too. ____________________  |

All I can remember is that many of us felt that the PlayStation was going to be the one to flounder out of all the consoles at the start.
And look where that ended up. Besides, if we don't make any specific progressions in technology, it won't really matter. Blu-Ray's already ahead of what most people can do anyways, and if that becomes the medium in say, I dunno, 10 years...what'll happen when they use 8-layer Blu-Ray discs that encompass 200GB per disc? I'd say it's -very- possible. |

I was rational until my previous post. But seriously, playing spokesperson for Sony isn't cool. Sure I like my Wii, and sure I want a 360, and I don't hate Sony, I just think they screwed up. And if someone tries to prove to me that they haven't/didn't or they think that it's going to prevail, then I am going to fight back my view of the situation. If I can't say something about my opinion over a gaming company, then what is this? I realised that Hiryuu liked Sony since his first post, if I had said that first thing then I could understand others getting mad at me, but I didn't and I totally respected Hurhuryuu until he brought out the silly 10-year strategy that every fanboy and his mother (AKA: Jack Tretton) are trying to push out on other consumers. Every time that is brought out into a conversation there is no winning it and the Sony fanboy will keep pulling it out as their wildcard (even though it is a bad one). ____________________ I miss post headers more. |
