If they truly don't want us using it, they should have left it to pms or something. What can they do? I think it's selfish and they just want to look better than us.

Very funny Forte.EXE but that seems machine translated. It's close to nonsense.

...babelfish have a funny way to translate it back as well in the last paragraph.

"My presumption him may release user those of England to us, that to the author of sea urchin ASMs you feel, this it is the rumor which remains exactly."

Any particular reason why you did that? What Google Translation produced for you is entirely unintelligible unless you know both English and Japanese and have a certain amount of hacking skills just to draw the connection. -.-

Meh, never use machine translations. Though the use of the custom frozen block would be useful when creating large patches of ice within a snowy level...

Oh, and it's accurate translation was:

"While impressive, these files appear to be incomplete as of yet. I have downloaded this file before the link was removed, but from my viewing of all this, there are still a few bugs left to be checked and erased.

My guess is that until the author of the ASMs feel like he can release them to us English users, this would just remain gossip."

Oh well, I've already deleted the download off Becky's laptop since she doesn't want me to clutter up her laptop with my stuff (unless my other computer goes dead).

This kind of behavior is not uncommon though, even in the ROM Hacking community. Many games (especially popular ones) show a considerable gap between the currently published hacks and the actual data used to do it. Take an obvious example: SMB 3. Many hacks are out there (or in progress), with lots of ASM hacking, funky levels, funky graphics, new music, but the data that was used for it is not available off the bat...

Is it because discoveries are like objects that some people want to keep to themselves? Maybe not, but it does look like that. The more the hacker has a tendency to self-centeredness, the more he will keep the data for himself, even if not consciously...

Well... I know I have to admit some culpabillity since I done this with my smb3 hack, throught I couldn't release the ASMs used since I done most of it in hex so I can't really get them easly(such as the kuribo shoe fix or the custom block ASM). However, I will try to release most of the data I will use in my SMW hack. Since I did those with an assembler.

It looks like the author of STARSW has decided to let us use his sprites. He only asks that we download the package from his site, and not redistribute it -- most likely because it has been updated so frequently.

http://mario.cold-web.net/view.cgi/1179998074/

I would like to thank him for allowing us to download these sprites. He's using Sprite Tool in a way I never thought to. It works out very nicely.

Heh, shows that diplomacy helps. There's was apparently a discussion about this on 2ch, but not knowing Japanese I was obviously unable to follow it.

This was not a particularly good bump. But whatever... can be overlooked.

I took the freedom to upload my local copy of STARSW here --> clicky

Hope that helps.

Bumping means posting in old threads, "bumps" them up to the top of the list.

"Old" is anything more than a month or so, or anything on page 2 or older.

Usually, you can justify a bump with good post content.

Basically bringing a topic that has fallen way down due to age back to the top position in the topic list by posting in it, especially if that post doesn't contribute much to the original discussion.
