As if buying the iPhone (for $600) wasn't enough, battery replacements are $80 each (so if something goes wrong, well...) ____________________ |

Posted by NightKev Add data plan minimum for the phone for 59.99 a month minimum...add poor battery life...add inexperience to market in terms of reception and convenience versus Sanyo, Motorola, Nokia... Anyone read TIME magazine anymore? They have loads of reasons why the iPhone sucks way more than the hype. It's worse for third-parties because Cingular/AT&T WHORES the phone and will not make it sellable for people like RadioShack to sell. Kinda sucks working when I could be making assloads of commission off of it. Truly, though, in a community such as this...I would expect maybe a grand total of one to exist in this entire city and that person is lucky to waste their time. I mean fuck...you have to SIDE-LOAD your media. Side-load! No buying tunes from iTunes for you (as if most people here actually rely on paying). And did anyone see the 10 megs JUMP from 7.2 to 7.3 in iTunes media for support in the iPhone? The Shuffle update (7.2) wasn't even close to 10 megs. Now it's 47MB. |

Oh, iPhone dosen't look like a bad phone to me. Just a little bit too expensive for me. I have my DS for games, my new mobile phone for using as a phone as some basic programs (that I probably won't use much, since I don't really need them). And my laptop when I need a computer.
My mom was considering to get a PDA for me once, but I kinda told her that I wouldn't have much of a use, considering I don't move around much. << ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

I must be the only person my age (20) without a cell phone in the country.
I have handled an iPhone, and I have to say it's awesome... Just not worth it's price. |

Well, I orginally had a mobile phone for my parents to contact me. And now I live in my own apartment without wired phone, I kinda need one to contact people who don't use a computer. And very few pizzerias receives orders by e-mail. ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

You can tell how bad the clicking is on it. This was meant to go in fish, and it sent only the thread title and no post (had to edit).
They need to make a stylus (like a paper clip length thing). |

Posted by NightKev don't forget that you have to send in the iPhone to get the battery changed. But yeah, i figure that 2nd gen would allow the iPhone to survive. Now..i don't think that is the case anymore. |

Posted by The Red Snifit The only reason I got a cell phone in October (and I was 22) was because I absolutely had to; someone had to call me somehow when I moved out. Besides, you can't find my D807 anywhere anymore. Personally, if I was wanting another one like it, I'd wait until the MotoROKR Z6 came out. Slider's cool and so's Linux...and all the features it gives is pretty much what I'd need anyways. |

People will bitch at anything, honestly. It's fine to pick holes, but for fucks sake, there's lots of positives over other phones out there. The only legitimate concerns I have is the contract tie-in (I hate contracts), the lack of 3G and other network-based limitations. The only serious competition is the series 60 Nokias in my opinion- which have been starved of innovation for half a decade now. They have not changed one bit. They're advertised as "music" phones as well, yet have blinding flaws - such as having only ten graduations of volume. What the hell? The least I can say for Nokias is that they have outstanding build quality. I've dropped mine countless times, even in the washing-up bowl and soaked it, yet it still remains I'm not buying a Motorola again. The last one I had, an MPX200 just stopped working without warning. I hadn't dropped it, I hadn't smashed it, wet it or anything remotely damaging. It just ceased. The iPhone is great. It's not perfect, it's still held back by incompetant networks, and they're lacking a few critical features. Let's face it, they're better than a lot of the competition. I'm not getting one until they fix the various problems, but dammit I want one And yes, I pay for my music. |

If this means Apple's going to pull support for the SLVR, well, in the words of our Founding Fathers, we may see murder yeeeeeeeet! I asked damn hard for that thing so I could listen to music on it too... |

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'd rather just get a laptop and a wireless net card from Verison (I believe they have cards that will allow connection to the cell phone network, for internet access wherever) and Skype.
No stupid contracts, an actual useful machine, and a computer that isn't locked down into what Daddy Jobs says is okay to run. iPhone: $500 (?) + $60 * 2 year contract = $1,940 My one-year-old laptop: $900 SkypeOut and SkypeIn for a year: $60 +$30 Sorry, but, uh, the laptop wins. $1,000 is far too much for a "pocket size" version. ____________________ I dealt with it. |

Posted by Kasumi-Astra ...and wouldn't you like to on your iPhone without -having- to rely on your comp? Can't with the iPhone. That sucks for a GOOD majority of people that PAY for their music. Sure, I'll just wait til I get home and then conveniently forget what music I wanted when I was at the office, since 90% of the time it's probably going to be used there anyways to uh...get away from the job. |

You can't use the words "Majority" and "Pay for music" in the same sentence. ____________________ |

*evil grin*
...But Hiryuu, I already have... A Mac! I don't feel constrained by iTunes to be honest. I use two of the most DRMed tools in the world - iTunes and an MP3 Walkman paired with Sonic Stage - and managed to cross-purchase songs for the first time. iTunes Plus might not be the most perfect deal in the world, but it's a lot better than Sony's Connect store. I vastly prefer to buy CDs from the stores when they're relatively cheap- the last three albums I bought in the last month were from the shops. I don't feel very constrained by the software situation, either. Sure, announcing to developers that they could develop for the iPhone in a way that they already knew they could was an incredible cop-out, but in my eyes some of the most exciting software in the last two years has emerged from the web anyway. I can see this trend continuing. I sure would like Flash support, though The only software I ever got for my series 60 phones was a couple of clunky emulators and a infra-red remote control program. The RC thing was the most amusing thing, though, allowing me to switch around their televisions while they had their remote control. That was it, though I must admit though that I am likely to wait for a super-slim, 12" MacBook Pro before getting an iPhone that is already a material product. That doesn't detract from the quality of the interface and media abilities that the iPhone posesses. That's what I will be using it for, really, and I think it's a sweet machine compared to the rest of the phone market. I would have to get a really sweet job first, to pay off the contract with. Speaking of which, I've got a telephone interview in around three hours... Do you think £20,000 - £25,000 pa is enough to pay off a data contract? (I am so not going to get it XD) |

Well, I tried to post here with my Sega Saturn, but my password was too long for it to remember.
But at least it appeared for 10 seconds on the IRC chat! |
