It seems a few unregistered users have spammed the living shit out of the site. Since I don't feel like combing through and undoing it all, anyone know if there's a way to protect them from that sort of vandalism, or just hope someone gets around to reverting?

Good thing is they're not overwriting anything, just pasting a shitload of properly-formatted links at the beginning.

Yeah, I cleaned up the spam there a long time ago, seems they're still at it. Fucking pathetic when you have to advertise on a Wiki. Looks like I have to do it again... bastards. Who gives a shit what they are selling anyways?

It's more likely bots than anything else, they really should disable editing for unregested users, or have more sysops protecting the wiki.

I was about to say the same thing. It looks EXACTLY like spambots. Spambots don't know what they're submitting. They just fill in the fields and click submit. If anything, a CAPTCHA would help.

Same times they do overwrite them actually. I had reverted them like, for 5 days until they made them edit ~20 pages at a time.

There is no reason that you shoudn't just have to log-in to edit articles though. It's not even that hard to protect against either. Especially since they write the same thing each and every time

I think it's totally ridiculous....
Seeing nothing but spam all the time is making me actually AVOID looking at that website anymore.

I know that something like that isn't really good for a website's reputation but not going to a website anymore because of something that wasn't even their fault seems dumb IMO. Hopefully they will have it cleared up soon.

Can we block specific IPs, then?

It's possible but you'd need to install a plugin called Espionage if the spammers start registering.

I've mirrored it at http://www.ajworld.net/MW_espionage.zip.
Throw it in the MediaWiki extensions directory, then add the following lines to your LocalSettings.php:
------------------------
require_once( "$IP/extensions/Userip.php" );
$wgPutIPinRC = true;
------------------------

Might wanna check for a more updated version elsewhere, but it seems to work fine on my wiki.

I've liked Datacrystal too. Those spambots are way out of control tho. It is kinda discoraging against wanting to view the latest edits to the site cause it's often spam rather than anything useful.
