Almost everyone I know uses Adobe PDF reader, however there is a better solution.

At least for me, I found Adobe PDF reader annoying to download (dial-up), so a friend pointed me to foxit PDF reader.

It has a small filesize <2MB, and it's EULA is easy to understand. There is a payed version, but the free version is not crippled, (woo).

It is just smaller and does not load a billion plug-ins.

The only bad part is that it can't be emebed into web broswers, so you have to download the PDF's. (Or use open with foxit bla bla bla)

It also has one thing useful, you can change the default text/background colors.
No more black on white.
I have no brain late at night full of candy makes that right.

Anyway: Linky.

(Wow, this description sucks, never write stuff on a glucose rush people.)

The only thing that bugs me about this program is the little ad in the corner keeps coming back every time you open it. I need to get around to writing something to fix that. Still, tens of thousands of times better than Adobe's bloated piece of crap.

Aside from using Foxit Reader (if you want to save memory and/or other resources), opening PDFs in your favourite browser still causes to open PDFs with that Adobe Reader plugin.

If you are using Firefox, there's a nifty add-on called PDF Download, which replaces the standard download dialogue with PDF files by a special one, allowing you to open up either the file with your default application (set in the options menu of that extension), viewing the PDF in a kind of crippled HTML-version, if you may not install a PDF- or any program on your computer, whatever) or simply download it to your drive.

HyperHacker: That advertisement at the top is indeed very small - and I think there is no need to remove that by using certain ... tools on that program.
You can even disable the advertisement after each start by right-clicking on the toolbar and removing the check next to "Advertisement"
It's even nice that option is included, though the program is free, doesn't need to be installed at all (!) and extremely small, at least compared to Adobe Reader.

Only bad thing is missing compatibility with certain PDFs, created with Adobe Standard or Pro.

I was thinking along the lines of a program that automatically activates the menu option when it's launched. Ads annoy me.

I'm thinking that if you use the right-click menu to disable it, it's permanent. I don't remember, but I'm pretty sure I disabled the little ad that way.

Or I may be wrong. It was a while back, after all.

EDIT: Just now disabled it again. I opened the program, turned off the ad, opened a file in the open window, closed the file (leaving the window open) then closed the window. Opening it again had no ad.

I'm sure fewer steps are required, of course

THAT is a phenomenon I've witnessed many times in my life...

Something seemingly revolutionary appears from nowhere, but a similar thing have been there for many years already. In this case, it is called "Preview", it can read PDF files and exists since 2001 at least...
