A home-built spell checker would require a ton of space... just proof-read your post before submitting it

I'm not too fond of spell checkers, as anything I write tends to include way too many non-words such as "Acmlm", "The Magical Orb of Glimberflots", or "printf".

Don't forget almost all of HTML and most usernames.

(Honestly, the sheer number of redlined words in my posts at the college is staggering. Amusingly, only one or two are ever really misspelled.)

At least it's not autocorrect which is ten times worse. "No, you idiot computer! I really did mean 'teh'!"

The OO.O spreadsheet's autocomplete is really annoying as well. I have a series of spreadsheets in which one column has the heading "2W" and I often have to put a 2 into that column, which the damn program changes into a 2W.

Can't you just disable Auto-complete? Most people would get annoyed by it, I'm sure...

I don't use spreadsheets or word processor programs (yet), so I wouldn't know

You don't use them at all? Most people at least use a word processor, for school if nothing else...

And I would disable it if I could find the damn option to disable it! I thought I found it, but it didn't work, it was probably the option to turn off teh->the.

And renaming the column wouldn't work either...it needs to be narrow so I can't spell it out, and TW (T = Two) won't work as there's already a TW column.

Whoa, 666th post? Bwahahhahahahhahahhaha! *takes over the world*

Read the helpfile, search for "autocomplete"

The only real word processor I use is Wordpad and that's just for one thing (terms/concepts for my Psych101). Past that, I just use standard text editors (EditPlus) for coding and other crap.

Then again, I've never really had a reason to use a word-processor

Maybe schools in Nevada don't care, but in Michigan everything has to be double-spaced, one-inch margins, Times New Roman size 12, and so on. Everything. I don't think WordPad can double-space, but I haven't used it in a while. Maybe the newer versions can.

At least schools in New York generally don't care about font, as I've used Kristen or Curlz before on a report, and it was still accepted xd

They don't here either. After getting side-tracked into a small argument with my German teacher over another student's coursework (which was written in a horrible semi-cursive font), I demonstratively printed a three-page interpretation in a decorative fountain pen font. It was accepted, though the teacher was pissed off (which kind of was the effect I was up to achieve anyway).

Some teachers here don't care, but some will take off lots of points if it's not formatted properly (and a few will even give you a zero). A few years ago, if I knew the teacher didn't care I would write things on my Commodore 128 and its dot-matrix printer for a while.

Any particular reason? Most people here are oldbies

Meh, maybe. It'd require a lot of "figuring out what to put into it" though.

Don't be a spammer, an idiot, a jerk, annoying, or immature. There, I just wrote the entire FAQ. And I didn't even have to use a question.

You forgot the obvious "don't post r0mz" on your FAQ.

A link to the FAQ on the third incarnation archive should be added to the headlinks. That outdated FAQ can be a placeholder until a new FAQ is written.

Why not put up the FAQ on Acmlmwiki.

Note that editing FAQ to get away with a rule should be a offence. And people shouldn't add rules because it happens to fit to them. :/
