I've got decent ones. >>

400W system should suffice I would hope. That or my Sony Fontopias that grab a 6-23000Hz range.

Upon checking that site with a decent pair at the office, both us dipped out after about the 16.7KHz range. I could barely pick up the 17KHz one.

I can hear them all except for the last one, which doesn't seem to actually have any sound in it.

Also, horrible tinnitis is going on now

Isn't that were you hear some type of tone?

I hate that. I get that when it's way too quiet.
When I go to sleep I have the air conditioner on so my ears wont start ringing.

I could hear up to 17.7 .. meh.

I also have now have that ringing ound (tinnitis), but I think it was caused by one of the lower ones .. the 17.7 didn't bother me much, whereas the 14.1 .. hurt

My old pair of headphones died recently... and the ones I'm using right now apparently can't play above 17.7k because there's no sound aside from the clicks at the start and end of the mp3. I've heard up to something around 20k before though - however high the last site that talked about this linked to. I need to get some new headphones.

I'm 21 and I have yet to notice a decline in my hearing, so I'm skeptical about believing that it's directly related to age. I'd guess instead that it's easy to permanently damage the high frequency receptors in ears - not that they just naturally decay or something.

I can hear several high-pitched sounds in my ears constantly. I tend to wholly ignore them, unless they're unusually loud at the moment. Most TVs are trivially easy to hear.
High pitch noises don't bug me, really. But there are certain scratching sounds that *really* irritate my ears. It doesn't really hurt, but it makes me want to grit my teeth anyways. For that reason, I never file my nails, and I will probably never play a guitar (skin scraping along the strings is what does it).

Something's not right...My hearing died over night? I can't hear some of them now for some reason...

Weird.

On a good pair, I was hearing them but I think it was a matter of harmonics.

Try playing two at once...we were trying to get ultrasonic chords going on...but I have a feeling it was the site glitching out.

I heard them all, but the last one was iffy. I hear something... but I have a feeling it's just ringing in my ears from the other ones.

Some of them were painful to hear... does that mean I have really good hearing?

K.

If you people click the highest frequency one and hit submit...you'll notice that it doesn't have sound. It's just a blank. :\

Supposedly the ones just above 17.7K (18.8K) are teen repellents...meaning people around 20 or so get to fsck around with teenagers with that sound blaring out of their cell. The one above that is exceptional hearing (six-year-olds) and above that is fucking with dogs.

Eh, I've got weird hearing. I can mute the television, go in another room, and hear that it's on by the frequency it gives off or something. If it gets turned off, I can tell. Maybe this is normal or commonplace, I haven't really researched or asked around...

Those god damn dog whistles absolutely kill my ears, though.

I can hear it better on certain sound systems that pick up better with different/better sound cards. As it stands, this one fails on the 21KHz one because it blares (probably harmonic distortion) whereas the other ones I can hear above the 16.7KHz mark.

The one at RS I could just barely hear the 17.8KHz one, couldn't hear 18.8, but the rest above that were distorted (meaning I could hear it but it was probably off) up until the top one (nothing).

Hearing televisions like that is very common.

Yea, I can still tell if there's electricity flowing or if a TV's on even if it's muted. It isn't 'deafed' to us 20-+-year-olds.

-+-...lol...

No.

Sounds of really high frequency can actually be painful to listen to, even if you don't hear it. Loud enough and you can actually feel a pressure in your ears even if you can't actually "hear" it.

I can hear up to the second last, but it's very very faint.

It's related to age, but indirectly. Namely, there's the fact that the human genome allows for only so much variability (such as height, skin color, etc.) and the exact shape and functions of certain organs won't change from person to person.

In this case, there's the structure of the inner ear. The inner ear of a big person will be just about the same shape of the inner ear of a small person; just bigger. So, uh... which ear do you think will have a better frequency response for higher pitches? Yeah. The smaller ear.

Thing is, when you get older, you tend to grow as well. Grow until, oh... early 20's? The simple fact that your inner ear grows larger results in higher pitches being more difficult to hear.
__________

Personally, I lost perception of sounds above around 18khz when I was 15. I'm a big person (6'5"), and I grew faster than normal. Wisdom teeth are usually the last change to take place in the body before adulthood, and those came in at 17. Most people get them in the 21~24 area.

I can hear when a TV's on, yeah. But I can't much hear that 18.8khz sample.

I got mine pulled at 16 but I still gained an inch in height last year and I'm 22 going on 23. (Now 6'2") :\

Sucks if that logic is universally true. I use my ears a lot.
