I started my time with Acmlm's Board way back in Dec of 1999. I was working on my kafuka ROM hacking project which started off with SMB3. I went to him to discuss intergeneration of some of the Allstars research I had collected, along with that of the long lost hacker MarioExpert. We struck up a friend ship over a time and discussed various matters on rom hacking to the emulation scene. By the time Christmas rolled around he was fed up with the wwwthreads board ZTnet provided for him. This gave him the chance to work on something new, something he could make on his own to suit his own style. If I remeber correctly the core functions of (registration, posting, and threads) were done by the end of the first nite. About 2 days into this I was talking to him and he said he was working on a new web board. I guess this is the point where people would say ".. and the rest was history" but not quite yet.
The testers of the time were some of the leading ROM hackers at the time. Luigi Plays Bass (I forget his more common handle, he was the one who did the flash of Mario Twins as well), BMF was there, and a few from FFL (Final Fantasy Legend) Phoenix, and others. I was made Administrator shortly as a joke. I had asked in a joking way and well ended up with it once status were implemented. I help Acmlm has out structure ideas and a few coding changes here and here. The day of opening was around Jan 21 2000. Within a week and a half the board was overloaded and would eat posts. The goal, once discovered became to get an sql db, and implement it in short order. Once completed, that began the first golden age. We saw many memberable individuals such as Danicess, Mesia, XKeeper, Bouche, and countless others. After an event that involved management of FFL and crossover with Acmlms I left for a while to clear my head, as I often do... and that is the end of my story for now. I've worked on many things in my "netlife" but my time at Acmlm's is in the top 5 without any question. I started off as an advisor to vMac, worked on an IRC network once called "meatnet" started tRO and worked with many of the guys at eAthena and in the RO community, and more recently I've been working on scifihero.net and "another" project that eveyone knows about but shall remain nameless. scifihero.net is the reorg of sg-command.net. Much like what happened here, happened there. It was a nightmare too. I had to try to keep the split from destroying everything we all worked for. It worked out over there. Things are still slow, and I have had no time to anything with my anime costuming section, but scifihero, survived. I have not nor shall I ever completely vanish from the internet or any project I ever work for or on. I may take my leave, or be like the wind. Happy Anniversary, I guess. Eventhough we both never came along pretty good (and you know why  ) I think we should just forget what has happened in the past.  Make it another 4 more years and boom, 10 years of AcmlmBoarding!  |

Shroomy! ...is still around, just not here. Kind of like you. Five letters, starts with "J", and ends with another name for "asshole"? Yeah, that's how it was here -- it was mostly a race against time to get the new place set up before we lost everything, and we nearly did anyway... at least most people migrated over here without incident, and we were able to get back the archives in un-fucked-with condition, so we havem ost of the old things. Maybe this time you can stick around for a while then ____________________ I dealt with it. |

Oh that was definitely when emulation was at its prime and not very well known. Even to this day it's really not known that well by the general public but it really took a shine back when NES/SNES emus were big. Around the 2003 mark, it waned.
I originally posted out of interest in the emulation line, more or less for interest in music and maybe some basic ROM Hacking (believe it or not, though I never really took interest after I found the 'work' involved) that was demonstrated by Ace's site. I still say we'd benefit from actually having a working website. We'd probably see the activity here bump up quite a bit. |

Isn't the fact Acmlm hasn't been posting much, a point of humor around here?
The ROM Hack Domain was online when I first joined the boards, though updates were rare by that time. NESticle had just started to decline in popularity too. I miss all that mystery surrounding Femine. FuSoYa is rarely seen anymore either (partly because the host for his site shut down a few weeks ago)... Edit: Oh, yeah. I did hear mention of that.
