Actually the music in Mario Fantasy has been done with a hex editor, not with this tool.

Not to mention MF also uses Demo World 3 as a base...

Ice Man: Do you have the original .mid files you used to create those songs by chance? I would be interested in seeing how you went about fixing them up.

I'm trying to fix the metroid song, but when i change an instrument, the song dies, and when it's inserted none of the other songs are.

I finally understand the format, but that converter HAS to leave out the tough stuff

About 90 minutes of converting and ear-bleeding-note-killing led to this. All that's left is octave and rest fixing. The end is borked a bit, but the rest is kinda sorta in tune. For a first attempt, I think it's pretty good.

Link

I'm sure you all know the song.

(note: I want to do Booster's Tower next, but it's huge)

I need to go listen to my SMRPG SPCS.... but whatever it is it sounds creepy.... I like it.... now if only I could figure out why after I edit my song's instruments it doesn't play at all...

Doesn't sound much like the original, and has some occasional pops and squeals, but I recognize it. I don't know if it has a name, but it's used (among other places) when the Shysters take over.

I always wanted SMRPG music in an SMW hack, but I'd want it to sound identical. Even if that means copying the entire engine and using SMRPG's sound effects and hacking all the music code. It's worth it.

Unfortunately, I only got the MM9 GamOver MIDI file.

I uploaded it here. It also includes a song from DK64.

*nod* The pops and squeals are due to the instruments and volume, which I haven't really tried or cared about yet. You'll notice theres an occasional note missing too that, once added, will sound better.

I'm going to try a simpler song .. maybe the SMRPG overworld and see what I can do

(also, the name of the song is "Trouble Ahead")

if I knew how to set up loops and echoes properly, this would be a whole lot easier for me, I might take a crack at the pink panther theme after this though =P

Anyone up for a nice remake? This really does sound like the original imo.

Pretty good Ice Man. However, like in the theme I made, there are a few notes where the octaves are messed up, and one lower then they should be.

Other then those notes those, it sounds great.

Yea, I know. It's a pain to do the octaves and instruments right. Oh btw, if you want to know what instrument sounds like what.

Download this pack and you will see what instrument the @ thingies play in a channel.

This MIDI import thing brings us N-SPC cracks, who claimed MIDI to SPC conversions were an impossibility to noobs over the years to silence them, in kind of a bad position... Still, this is kind of interesting. I wonder if an import filter from that text format for Solar Soundtrack would be worth it (since it would allow easily importing MIDIs into the N-SPC without "making my hands dirty" coding the MIDI reading myself).

On an unrelated (they are not made with this tool, and not even for the exact same engine) note, I put some of the N-SPC based SPCs I made over the years here. Have a look.

Name the song and win $

Link

Aside from one strange note and the awkward loop, that sounds a lot like the original. It could be used as the new Star Road or Special World theme

Heh, Star Hill

SMRPG seems like a good game to start on, seeing how the songs in it aren't too complicated (I mean, except Culex, but meh)

Just tried working with a YI one, but then I realized those aren't too exciting.

Because Culex is actually an FF2 song, one of the boss battles, has anyone listened to "lets play geno" yet? that one is an SMW song remixed

Ah. "Let's Play Geno" is just the "Here we go!" theme in SMW. Nifty.

Also, for true SMRPG fans:

Rose Way

This sounds like the original. In my opinion, it's my best one yet

Eh, kinda sounds NESish. :-/ Also a much more tropical feel to it than the original.

Can the instrument samples not be ported?

This thread makes me smile. Custom music in SMW was one thing I've always wanted to try, and really makes me willing to make something totally awesome with it.
