Are you talking about DW:TLC? AFAIK it's the only SMW hack that requires expansion to work right. If you DL'd the official archive from Fu's site (R.I.P. Panicus ) or SMWcentral, select a CLEAN ROM (you should be able to remember this rule in your sleep), use Lunar Expand (included in the .zip) and expand the ROM to a 48Mbit ExHiROM (the upper-right option). THEN use LIPS.

Source: The handy-dandy readme included with the .zip.

For all other hacks:
LIPS is easy to use, just place it in the same directory as the ROM you plan to patch (?) If you're using XP, your comp should now recognize IPS patches as a known file type (make sure you set them to open with Lunar IPS under "properties).

Double-click on the IPS patch you want to use and select a CLEAN (I cannot stress this enough) copy of the SMW ROM in the window that appears. If you did it right, it should tell you "The file was successfully patched!" Now enjoy your hack!

This worked for me, if you're still having problems just double-check that you've set up LIPS (your comp recognizes IPS patches) and that the ROM is clean. Use the Clean ROM verifier on SMWcentral to be sure.

Hope this helps...

You might try chilling out just a bit, not swearing in every post, and then telling us exactly what's happening when you try to apply patches. Do you just get black screens? What does the emulator say when you load the ROM, if anything? Did you make sure your ROM has a 512-byte header (the filesize should be 524,800 bytes)?

Whenever I patch it it has a black screen, checksum fail and all.

I patch a HACK however and it WORKS.

Can you open the original SMW ROM in Lunar Magic? If you can't, it will give an error. This may help us in figuring out what your problem is.

Another solution is to turn on checksum correction in your emulator (I think it is in ZSNES, or SNES9X. I'll have to look), and maybe that will let you play the game.

Also, you should keep the IPS patch in the exact same file as the rom you patched it to. That is usually a problem.

Never works.
Doesn't work in Lunar Magic either.

I'm pissed because I got this from a GoodSNES batch.

Double check your ROM with NSRT.
