From what I am continously hearing... This is what some people are calling "correct" isometric art.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Hover over the picture for my opinion on it.

Isometry is all about eliminating perspective. In essence, there isn't really a "close to the camera" or a "far from the camera". There's close and far, but it cannot be related to the camera.

A 3d image can be isometric. It might not be pixel art, but it can still be isometric.

However, taking any 3d image and just simply rotating it does NOT make it isometric.

Notice how the bottom left edge of the ground and the top right edge don't have the same angle. In an isometric projection (opengl calls it "orthographic"), those two lines would have the same angle. This is just one example, there's a couple things in this image which give it away as non-isometric.

This is isometric. An easy way to tell this is how the vertical lines are all parallel to each other, no matter where in the picture they are.
Another way to tell is that all of the lines are parallel to each other. The top of the right fence, the borders of the right sidewalk, the gaps on the left sidewalk, etc, are all parallel.

I already stated that that image was non-isometric.

However, my two first images are from the correct angle and lacks perspective.
