After reading a few things after setz pointed it out in the last thread, I decided to try and draw real isometric art.

This is the result:

Comments? I am trying to improve, so any thoughts would be wonderful.

Something's wrong with the roof's center point.
Otherwise, super awesome!

Yea the roof is off-center but I think it looks kinda cool.... although if it were a real house I doubt anyone would buy it.

Huge image size images

</thread_hijack>

It looks nice small hacker, however, it looks like you used a program to tilt tiles to the correct angel, and added a texture.

However, in most drawn isometric art, it is different.

Lines in the x and y axes would not follow a neat pixel pattern if drawn in the required 30° to the horizontal. While modern computers can eliminate this problem using anti-aliasing, earlier computer graphics did not support enough colors or possess enough CPU power to accomplish this. So instead, a 2:1 pixel pattern ratio would be used to draw the x and y axes lines, resulting in these axes following a 26.565° (arctan 0.5) angle to the horizontal.

a few nitpicks, mostly due to size and perspective;
the shadows seem as if the house was very high up, but it doesn't look too high up.
The black line on the side of the house looks really out of place because there are almost no interior black lines anywhere else on the image (consistency is key )
The bottom of the chimney doesn't follow the roof angle, and the top of the chimney looks crooked because the black section doesn't follow the lines.

Overall its a great start, defenitely a huge improvement on your other attempt . If you're serious about fooling with pixelart I suggest posting at pixelation, because the people there can defenitely be alot more helpful than I

Smallhacker: way to contribute

Wow, that's pretty good!

Here's one I made when I was bored in CS class my senior year (2 years ago)
link
But yeah, it's not really as good. Then again, if I were to try drawing this again, it'd be better.

But yes, you should definately consider joining pixeljoint or pixelation if you want to improve your skills.

I look at these and instantly think... PAPERBOY!

They always look like a cross between The Sims and Paperboy with that good ol' retro touch.

Nicely drawn but the colors make it look like a polly-pocket house.

Smallhackers house make me think on how The sims might have looked like if Will Wright actually managed to convince his superiors about his dollhouse idea few years earlier on.

Oh, and here's the house from another, non-iso, angle:

I was too lazy to add a window to that side to the house.

That's ISO dolt. iso in this case refers to isometric, a way of displaying something

That looks better, but, now the lower-right section of the roof seems *too* short Also, it almost feels as if the roof is floating above the house, perhaps shading around the top of the walls?

Isometric is an exact way of drawing at a specific degree (120°) to create an illusion of a 3D image, with an isometric graph/layout as a definate guide.

Simply creating a 3D model and then rotating it does not create a proper isometric image, because the lines have to line up with an isometric graph for it to be correct.

I havent done any for a while though, I stopped studying graphic products at college about two years ago.

...and I suppose the isometric graph follows the not-really-isometric 2:1 format?

In that case: Correct isometric art isn't a correct isometric image, and a correct isometric image isn't correct isometric art? Yay, logic!
