I have a crappy oldv ersion of mIRC that doesn't require paying for (it just occasionally opens a browser window saying Register me!)...

How exactly is that different than the crappy new versions?

I use mIRC, but I do avoid making me dependant on it. Such as by making my ircbot in java instead of mircScript. :/

For most purposes, I use mIRC. (Sure, the dialogue box at startup of unregistered versions is annoying, but meh... to date, I haven't found an adequate replacement for the mIRC scripting)
I used to use HydraIRC for a while, but figured it kind of sucked.

When connecting from Linux machines, I mostly use irssi. Then, there's AwesomeBotV2...

I just use mIRC. It'll nag you about registering and occasionally pop up it's register page on the internet, but it most certasinly does not lock you out.

I use Chatzilla because I find it convenient to be able to just type in the URL in the browser window... though, it does mean that when the browser crashes IRC goes with it.

Yeah, I'm using mIRC. I mean, if it still allows you to use it after the trial expires, I guess there's no problems...

Just remove the nag screen. No fuss at all if you do that.

Yoshi Dude recommended me XChat. It was pretty good until the trial ran out.

Now I'm just using mIRC for the time being I guess.

Hm, I used XChat for awhile without any trial screens or anything, that must be a recent thing.

The official windows build of X-Chat you have to pay for. However, there are unofficial builds (posted earlier in this thread) that are free.

@Xkeeper: The SilverEX build is pretty spiffy, primarily because it's free. I personally don't like X-Chat (it's awesome on Linux, but slow and bulky, from my experience, on Windows), but I'm sure there are plenty of people who would totally dig a free X-Chat, so there you are.

Silverx's is really sluggy somehow, when i need to use irc on windows i prefer Sergio's build, it's much smoother for me.

On another note, didn't see any mention of WeeChat yet. A text-based client which i actually prefer to irssi and BitchX.

I use mIRC, though I'm gonna download another client to try out when I have the bandwidth to get it.
