Surely there must be some that works. Nero is utter shit (yeah, this single-layer disc is really dual-layer, and the disc drives in 2 different machines both died at the same time, we need an eye-rolling smilie), XP's built-in burner won't burn DVDs, and the few programs on Sourcefourge only burn ISOs.

So are you trying to burn on a single-layer or dual-layer.

Besides, Nero 6 always worked fine for me on -either- of them.

I don't have much occasion for burning DVDs, but when I do, I use CDBurnerXP Pro 3. It's freeware (which is always nice) and I've never had any problems with it. I don't think it can do dual-layer DVDs, though.

They're single-layer DVD+RW, but it occasionally thinks they're dual-layer. I've managed to get it working with a few tricks (full-erase at minimum speed after any failure, burn at 2x, etc) but it still randomly fails (moreso on one machine, with errors like "power calibration error" and "sector read failure"), and is still just crappy software in general. I'd love to know of an alternative for next time, or a program to create .isos to burn with one of the many available programs.

Ah, I think I can actually help you out there. Folder2Iso (again, freeware) can take a folder and turn it into an ISO. This wouldn't really be helpful if you wanted to add more data to a disk later on, though. :/

Wow, the author managed to find a worse file host than Rapidshare (namely, Depositfiles). I didn't think it was possible to have so many ads on one site.

Perhaps you just need a firmware upgrade? That allowed me to get a certain DVD-R to work on my burner.

Nero is really shit if another program reads that DVD+RW correctly. My guess is your DVD drive doesn't like that DVD brand.

I use CopyToDVD. Works great for me with single layer, dual layer, or rewritable. Its not free though, but its easy to find a crack. its simple, recognizes what you put in without having to fight with it, and it works.
