I really didn't see that one coming.

it was raining [flea]men!

If you're going to play rondo, you have to freeze-frame upside-down in mid-air.

Coolest game intro stage ever.

too bad they used some pussy anime sprites in the credits.

It doesn't quite work like in SotN

One of the coolest designs for death. his pre-ninja-ass-kicker form was pretty cool too.

This game had a *lot* of throwback moments, between stage ideas, improved gfx from the nes games, songs, and enemies, it really just felt like the pinnacle of CV.
Rondo had some great moments =)

Also, you can jump on and off of stairs! fucking sweet. the jumps are slightly less stiff while still retainign some stiffness. So it pretty much feels like everything SCV4 should have been.

I still haven't 100% the game; I haven't saved any of the girls and have a few alternate stages yet to play. Its totally worth checking out, though.

One thing to note is its not easy, you have to know pretty much how every enemy acts and how to kill it. Richter is a fucking pussy and will die fast if you don't. Some people like to bitch about that, but it makes the game even more fun for me because it puts emphasis on being awesome and not getting hit (which nails you an extra live at the end of a stage, and man they come in handy later on)

Good game. If you see it for less than $1,590,302 you should buy it and sell it on ebay for that price.

then pirate it because nobody pays insane prices like that unless their idiots. Really, check it out.

This looks pretty awesome actually, I might have to look into it now.
Thanks for the heads up on it.

Indeed I have Dracula X for PC Engine. Quite definitely my favorite game of the series.
Question; Is this the same version as the PC Engine had pretty good quality animated cutscenes?

I just played through the game with Maria, she really makes the game too easy to enjoy IMO.

Sgraff: this is the PC Engine one and I wouldn't call the cutscenes "good quality" The intro FMV was sort of cool, but thats it.

meat --> random sweets

everyone is a pussy when you're a little girl.

obligatory upside-down victory pose.

a typical cutscene.
(Note: thats a dark room... just incase you couldn't tell)

I have not played the game in a few years so I cannot remember too well.
I have searched though and found two cutscenes in this quality. Perhaps the quality varies.
I think I can remember that...

That's not quality at all.

Compared to the last image that setz shows, it is higher.

Is this the one that got completely butchered for the SNES version?

'cause I played the SNES version pretty much nonstop for a while.

Yep. Akumajo Dracula X: Chi no Rondo (would've been "Castlevania: Rondo of Blood" in all odds) was distilled (/butchered/broken) into Akumajo Dracula XX, also known as Castlevania Dracula X or Castlevania: Vampire's Kiss, depending where you live.

Never got far in Rondo. Can you still Item Crash the Key to do the whole RAWRPOWERUP thing followed by the "?" bubble? Since I found that rather disturbingly useful in the SNES one.

Wait, where did you find a use for item crashing with the key? O_o.

I always took the entire key section of the game as my punishment for breezing through all the hard enemies by being the grand master of the ax.

While you're charging up, you're invulnerable, and failing that, it gives you a bit more height on your jumps, as well as being a nifty way of dodging attacks. I used it almost religiously for one of the bosses... The headless lance guy, if I'm not mistaken? It's been a while, I don't remember so well.

Just a note: the SNES "version" is an entirely different game.

There may have been a few cutscenes that looked halfway decent like that, but 90% were just shitty anime sketches. the castle had good art in the cutscenes, though. (but really, who plays a game for the cutscenes? )
