Our labs used to be filtered, but they didn't do a good job (I mean, years ago, when I was still in highschool and we co-used the lab)

I remember a lot of people in my General Business or whatever class always plaing "strip nibbles" (the old QBasic game in a flash movie), and them always losing before getting very far at all

God, I hate it when schools try to strap students down with this crap. They use these cheap programs as if they were trying to demonstrate a disingenious way of saying, "We're smarter than the students". In reality, the teachers most likely don't know any more about computers than the students. At least in my old school.

You know how I can tell the aren't computer savvy? They use fucking pdf files as html replacements. On top of that, their html pages were done in Frontpage.
They have NO clue about the ethics in web design (For example, disabling right-click = one less convenience and one more annoyance) let alone the proper way to make websites in general.

Things like that just irk me.

My school blocks acmlm.org, but I can get to this site just fine. And the blocking software is extremely annoying; it's a big FLASHING PAGE that pops up. So jarring and annoying.

We have Wi-Fi at university. That makes it very much more difficult for them to monitor what we do on our laptops. All they can do is block ports, but even then it's fairly easy to tunnel out using SSH

It's fairly easy for me and my friends to browse 4chan and leave meatspin on unsuspecting machines

My high school was too low-tech for that, the library staff would just walk around the computers.

Mine was so low-tech that all you really had to do to fsck with people would be to edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT file in an infinite loop with echoing and calling autoexec. They ran Windows 98 and their server was less than acceptable until my final year when I convinved them to get off their ass and get a T1. Back in the day, that was an awesome upgrade, especially for a grad class of 20 kids.

Yea, gradding 4th doesn't really sound to good against those numbers.

I'll not quite care about grades as much as I used to anymore. The only thing I would get out of classes at my age would be the confidence that I actually learned something when I go to the end of the class. If I don't have that, then I wasted my time and my money.

I can honestly say that most of my college and high school years have been a thorough waste. I can only quote -2- high school teachers that were of any worth to me and I can maybe quote -3- from my college years. I have to give major props to the English (12th) and Speech (college) ones I had. I would be lost without them today, that's for sure.

Being kickass at Chem because of the Science teacher in HS I had for three years doesn't suck either. The only other teachers that I've had in college were a Trig and Pre-Calc teacher. I hit Calculus and the teacher was fucking retarded. I only stayed in to see if I could pull a D and ended with a 57% with 5 total students left afterwards. Hell we had someone with a B average pull out of the class because he knew that the instructor was full of horse shit.

So that's really what I'm in for. Grades? Fuck 'em. If I get something out of the class and can -APPLY- it (that's a big thing for me) then I'm that much better off and I don't feel conned out of paying an excessively high dollar per hour every semester I go to school.

(13:58:03) Ailure: I just went to class and back agian
(13:58:07) Ailure: we have a heavy snow storm here
(13:58:10) Ailure: there were like
(13:58:14) Ailure: two pupils and one teacher
(13:58:21) Ailure: we small-talked for a bit and decided to head back home again
(13:58:30) Ailure: as we came to the conclusion nothing would be done with such few pupils :/
(13:59:33) Ailure: even my door was blocked by the snow outside
(13:59:42) Ailure: none else in this part of the building had gone out
(14:00:11) Ailure: I had to push a bit to get out. <<

I'm insane for even going to class, despite me living so close. Oh well.

Our school blocks all ports but 80 and 443. (The reason behind this is that they were sorts of blackmailed by the school ministry to install their new content filter - if they hadn't, they wouldn't have been assigned any newer replacement for the 200MHz computer stock)
What I wind up doing if I need to go to IRC or a site they filter is tunnelling the localhost proxy I set up on the tRO server (I made sshd listen on port 443, since we are not using HTTPS). It's a bit complicated, but figures, it works.

Some ports seems to be blocked on the wireless network, to the annoyance of our teacher in computer networks class. xD

Thankfully, despite my desktop computer being part of the network, the other ports aren't blocked. If they were I would complain, citing that it brings problems to my schoolwork.

My school security loses.

They had both a client-side (SmartFilter) and a server-side filter (FortiGuard).

SmartFilter was easy. I just had to kill the process, then kill its entry using HijackThis.

FortiGuard... well, https://stupidcensorship.com isn't blocked, it's what keeps eBay from getting blocked as well

My school says they have stuff that can block me out of places like this, yet I still manage to check all the forums from school. They fail.

At my school, we have this filter, I think it's called WebSense, that like, pretty much blocks everything except for Google and Wikipedia. Me and my friend just go on Google and look for proxied websites .....
