Nope, these are all custom made maps. Kawa beat me to it.
It is a really nice job, Kawa, and team. I still can't wait to get my hands on the finished product.

In reality who knows, they probably wouldn't sue because
1) They would lose
2) Even if they win they would get no money because the project is free for everyone
3) It's not harming them, if anything it shows that people like pokemon a lot and they should make many, many more pokemon games to cash in on the popularity of pokemon

They look at "That project can cause people to not give us money, because they can get something similar for free". Meaning that supposition 3 is blatantly false; infringement of a copyright would also give them money, despite the lack of profit on the project.

And like it or not, there's at least a halfway decent chance they would in fact not lose.

Assuming they'd have to bother to go to court, anyway. It's more likely they'd simply threaten to sue. That's enough for people who don't have the money to burn on fending off lawsuits from giant corporations.

Honestly, taking an opinion like that is like jumping on traintracks when a train is coming and betting that either it would stop, or you would overpower it WITH YOUR BARE HANDS

Okay, in less bummerific news... The project is looking awesome. Best of luck with completing it... And cherish whatever obscurity you have!

No copyright law is even in remote danger of being violated right now, as nobody's distributing anything yet.

Later on, if for some reason they did get sued, they would only have to replace the graphics with cheap knockoffs and they'd be absolutely and utterly safe.

Well, there are a few copyright and trademark problems. Replacing graphics, and even characters name would resolve that easily though. But it all depends on how the graphics is obtained, you can kinda get around this by requiring the original game ROM and have something that extracts from this game ROM and put it into the... new one.

I wouldn't mind beta-testing it.
