Well you think they'd at least send cops to give you a ticket. |

Posted by Jinsei, benevolent starQFT. I worked at a nursing home on weekends part time. You know where they put me? In the alzheimer's ward. My job was pretty simple, provide breakfast for the patients who were in the area. Thing was, the place would simply give me a plate of donuts to put out regardless of what they may have actualy asked for. Their logic was the people wouldn't remember what they ordered anyway, and if they did, I was to tell them that they were mistakened. I quit that job FAST. Urgh. (though last I heard the person heading that particular "program" was let go...that's besides the point) |

Now that is terrible. To know you have Alzheimer's and be told repeatedly that your memory is failing (not to mention the obvious "but why do I keep ordering donuts for breakfast?") like that... I can only imagine the havoc that could wreak on one's state of mind. I hope you told the police or something.
And of course, donuts? Couldn't it at least be something healthy? |

One time I went to a large retirement community to help with some kind of Thanksgiving Day party. We brought down some of the residents from the Alzheimer's floor, and they were so nice. One of the ladies told me I reminded her of her son, who also had the same name as me. He had gone to war and she hadn't heard from him since. It was kind of sad. She was a sweet old lady.
I hate it when people put themselves over the people they are trying to take care of. I'm also not very happy with the current state of healthcare facilities. I wish those people would put others before their paycheck. |

Well HH, the person who was running that particular program was "let go" a while ago, so I can only assume someone must have said something ;\ it was pretty wrong all together though. |

That is not good, at all. All those patients will probably have problems, always thinking they have the wrong memories, I can only imagine how bad that must feel, in addition to the alzheimers, constantly questioning the memory I do have. And I know this was said, but seriously, donuts? if they were going to screw with the people's minds, the least they could do is give them something healthy to eat. Atleast it's been stopped at this point, hopefully. ____________________ There are things I want to put here. Like a cool picture, my 8-bit theatre character test result, my MS and RO characters... But it's 12 AM, and I'm sleepy. |

All nations make mistakes, and it'd be hypocritical to blame the entire United States on one area's Emergency service absolutely sucking. Not to mention an unfounded blame; who says the other ones are this bad?
Furthermore, if we're going to bash countries based on a single instance of bad amenities, why not bash all of them? I mean, I don't even know of a country which hasn't had a goof this big in some department. Do you? |

Posted by KeitaroPosted by Jinsei, benevolent starQFT. Yea and it's ridiculous how much people pay to live in these places. The one I work at is like 5,000 a month. It's not even that great. But we at the Activities dept. try our best. There are a few of us(10 maybe?) but we are also the people who treat the residents the best. Maybe it's because we don't have to spend 12 hours doing the dirty work the nurses and aides do. It's kind of unfortunate though when you have people from our department arguing with nurses and aides to get them to take a resident to the bathroom because of inconvenience. A lot of residents fall, though I'm happy to say I've never seen one fall while I was around. 5,000 a month and you're not even guaranteed to stay clean and safe. This is of course with those who are less able to express themselves or remember such problems because of alzheimer's, dementia, or whatever else. I always try to remember that it's more frustrating for them than it is for us. You will likely find that the people who work at nursing homes are those oppose the institution's purpose. They know how bad it is for the residents to be detached from their family. It is ridiculous. |
