Everything looks awesome except for the exclamation mark (!) not having a . under it and the big I (which looks kind of like a slash to me). Also the flagpole looks to plain for the style.

You should as well give characters and enemies that new look.

Kind of odd that the ground has no outlines while blocks and objects do, but it seems to work. That flagpole really needs some shading, though. Give the right edge a greyish shadow.

On the map screen, the grass and water could use a slight bit of texture (although you may have been planning to do so), and the pipe's lip needs some depth (it looks flat).

About the objects clashing with the grassland tileset, you could probably replace the black outlines on the top and left edges with the darkest shade.

I really like those custom fonts!

As far as the message box font goes, I'd suggest changing the B a bit; it looks a bit too much like an 8 to me.

The message box font looks distinctly Mr. Saturn-y to me. Not a bad thing, of course.

I'd try and give everything a more pastel shaded look.

Kinda like what you're doing there, but try and avoid heavy blacks unless they're definately needed.

And re-do mario and the rest of the sprites in the same style eventually.

It all looks very nice, but some things need more shading hun.
Flag poll need more shading as well.

Maybe you should try a different style Mario as well for your hack so he fits in better with his suroundings.

I really like your art style (I like the unique landscape with no border while the objects have one), but as some have said, you need to create a custom Mario. Also, is it me or does the 'M' after the level is completed remind you of the "golden arches" (McDonalds)? McKids anyone?

Well, I'll fix the minor things and I had thought about custom mario (I'm definitely going to do custom sprtes) but it just seems so difficult and I'm lazy sometimes
I'll try, but idk if I can pull it off. Maybe I'll borrow a mario from another hack. I'm not too good at ExAnimations either...

Oh and yeah, i thought the 'M' looked like McDonalds too lol (and it saves tile space)

And I like the objects having a border b/c I think it keeps it in the 'world of Mario' or whatever.

I'm also trying to think of ideas for a BG for this level, or maybe it looks fine without one?

Any suggestions?

That font hurts my eyes. Some letters ("c" in particular) don't align with the rest and overall it just looks odd.

The overworld looks really, really bland too. I don't see why everyone obsesses over the "SMB3-like level tiles", since they really don't fit SMW and look like crap.

I agree with Xk on the font. The C is un-aligned, and the I should probably more in the center. Ad where are the dots for the exclamation points?

And also, the map looks pretty boring. Like... lifeless. And also, I'm not too fond of the flagpole. But besides those, nice job on the graphics. (Most of them anyways.)

yeah i was, don't think it turned out too good on some of the menu letters

I haven't actually worked on those changes and details yet (the OW texture for instance) because I've been messing around with UnrealEd.

Its really cool, but I'm a novice for now at it UT is awesome!!!!

Back on topic...

What do you guys think about a somewhat YI style BG w/ hills and trees for this level?

I was thinking about basing the design of my BG on the BG in this level:

I really like that BG....This hack is nice, One thing try to add secret levels that are harder. But you still get to the same castle. That will totally rock. ( A lot of nice hacks is missing this )

oh i have a pretty good idea for more than a few secret levels/areas and a pretty good twist to add to it. i just need a story

finally textured the water so the OW gfx are done for toad's island as well as the 1st/2nd levels FG/BG gfx (for the most part) now on to sprites/blocks so i can start designing the 1st 2 levels

final OW GFX:



and my GFX style idea was to have no border whatsoever land; black border objects/sprites/mario; and border the BG stuff with the darkest color (like the trees/mountains in this BG.) I thought this looked good, so yea... I might try to make some of the BGs look more 'realistic' too.
