Call me skeptical, but I still think wires are better than wireless. ____________________ |

I didn't even think that was possible. But hey, no more tripping over power cords . ____________________ If you read this, then you must really be bored. |

Posted by DragThank you so much. Really, I thought I was the only one. I've always found wires to be more reliable. |

I also prefer wires in most cases. Wireless networks tend to be very unreliable in my experience. When I had wireless Internet in late 2005 and early 2006, it would go down for minutes or even hours at a time constantly. I shudder to think of wireless power at that reliability rate. |

While I prefer the stability of wired things... I do have a thing against wires... it's kind of a complex. Messes of wires make me all weird and I have to untangle them and make them look nice and tie them together with zip ties to make them look nice. Therefore I'm all for the no wires in that regard. ____________________ |

Yeah, there is the scenic Wire Forest under my desk right now, but I usually don't have much trouble as most of them are only power cords and such that are rarely fiddled with. The only trouble arises when I'm trying to grap my headphones or gamepad and I haven't used them in a while. Sometimes I've had to just unplug and re-plug them rather then bothering to untangle them. |

Wait... I think I saw this stunt in a movie recently... Where an entire field of light bulbs were able to be lit without wires... ____________________ My current complication: Girl's name who gets no more than 10 minutes of screen time in the actual game. |

It says that they use magnetic fields. So you have to keep things like floppy disks (yes, people still use them) away from the power source.
Then there's all of the metal stuff in our houses. You all use computers, right? If part of the computer is resonant with one of the magnetic "frequencies" you could end up doing anything from magnetizing the case to frying the CPU. And what about other electronics? This is really cool stuff, but I don't want to fry my (outdated but working) computer. ____________________ "I'm sick of it and I'm out. See you around." ~Cpu's last post here |

If you love wires you probably never had a garbled mess of game system AC Adaptors all shoved into an extension cord next to the TV that you eventually had to sort out to unplug one of them and plug another one in.
I fucking love wireless. ____________________ |

Posted by setz I had something similar with my older computer systems. 8 outlets used, plus a power bar & 3 extension cables w/ 3 outlets on each. Yeah, lots of shit on that system. More if you count the speakers plugged into that other power bar Personally I support WiTricity, but I'd like to see what happens if they move the light's coil so it doesn't line up with the power emitter |

Two problems I see right away:
1) Magnetic fields. Those are bad for electronics. 2) Money. Specifically: a) They can't tell who's using the power source. Thus, we won't see cell-phone-like power networks covering entire cities (how to bill you for it?) and people will be able to mooch off your home network (think wifi, but plain electricity can't be encrypted). b) As the blog mentioned, it would be the solution to the problem of how to power an electric car. Thus, oil companies will squish it. A few reasons this wonderful technology that could significantly better our world will almost certainly never see the light of day. Ain't society great? |

Posted by setzI have that sort of mess right now, except it's under my computer table instead of next to the TV, and it's also a mess of computer cords as well. I still prefer wires. |

My only mess of wires is behind my desk. My computer peripherals run down the back of my desk, into my computer, underneath. My TV runs down the back of my desk too.
I have a desk that has shelves, so I stick my monitor, printer, etc on the shelves, and my TV sits on top of the whole thing. I have a 3-way input switcher that I plug my systems into. (or "system", I currently only have my Wii set up.) Basically, every wire that I use, I drop it behind my desk, so there's a lot of wires running down teh back of my desk, but I still know which one's for what. ____________________ |
