I just thought I'd throw these out there...

It would be cool to see what other people have equipped. And also, when you buy something, I think you should be able to keep it and equip it whenever.

Just ideas.

I think it would be pwn to be able to buy features in the shop... like...

New theme: 1,500 coins
10 posts in Pay-Per-Post forum: 2,000 coins
50 attachments: 3,000 coins
Ability to change your own title: 20,000 coins
Ability to close your own threads (without being mod/admin): 400,000 coins
...etc...

It would be really pwn if coins became the board's official currency with the ability to give other people money and such.

That would be interesting, all right. though for say, New Theme, you'd need a preview to be sure. Ntohiung like spending 15,00 coins on a theme you turn out to hate

And for the attachments, you should have some available without buying. No sense in forcing someone to post who knows how many times before being able to post an ips patch for a critical SMW hacking development or what-have-you.

Well... It's just an example of something that could be sold in the item shop. Personally, I would find it annoying to have to pay for attachments.

One could put coins as a prize for the winner of Brain Teasers. Just a suggestion.

Maybe that could attract more people to them. Not that it´s not popular already, though.

Yes, Brain Teasers seems to have grown in popularity since we moved. I just hope it remains popular, because it's one of my favorite forums.

I could actually implement a sort of lottery system like Lotto X for the board, but I'd have to see

I'd need to also include things like finding out how many coins you have, but studying status.php and such might give me a general idea.

It might be a neat thing to implement

Perhaps an inventory system for the itemshop too and not just "equipped items"...

Just one thing to keep in mind is that the coins gained per post go up, so the same price eventually becomes cheaper for you ... but then that'd also mean you get to use those special features more often once you've been active for a while

Money transferring wouldn't be too hard to do (like the lottery idea), but some of those things I really don't like... things that get in the way of normal board operation (like attachments).

Although really, at some point "10 posts in pay/post forum" would eventually lead to getting many more coins per post than you would spend... so it'd become an infinite loop

Although again, buying different themes sounds nice.

(Though again, it seems like a cheap way to increase post count...)

Like Xk said, my only concern would be periods of spamming just to get enough coins to afford an item. This aside, I also like the idea of the ability to buy board schemes, etc. Attachments might be going too far, though.

... maybe you can spend coins to have a uniquely colored username. Have a clause in the new FAQ like a similar one that existed for syndromes before. "Any other color usernames you see besides these staff ones are custom ones bought with coins by the user."

Spamming for coin should lead obviously to a ban... and a withdrawal of coins.

I hate custom username colors. I mean, I hate them.

They remove any sort of uniformity a forum has... not to mention during a hack attack, it takes away the "oh, this user is an admin, something's wrong" factor if they have a custom color

Well really, it is pretty hard to weigh in the practical use of coins without (at least somewhat) running the risk of giving users an excuse to spam. To be honest though, the novelty of having coins mean something is worth more than the concern of some offbeat user posting nonsense in a bunch of places.. (I think most people here right now are well behaved, and generally newcomers with the spammer attitude don't last long enough for it to matter anyway..)

The scheme idea is probably one of the best too.. Might even give some incentive to making a lot more of them, so you have a wide selection at varying prices depending on complexity and such..

Well, it's in my personal opinion that encouraging people to post isn't too bad, as long you don't make them ruin their life and as long they're not blatantly spamming.
