I'm not sure when this has started, but now every time an open file dialouge appears, it sorts it in reverse ABC order! I almost never sort that way, and it's very annoying to have all the folders now at the very end of the list, with files starting with Zs and Xes in the beginning. At one point, on another computer I believe, the computer seemed to automatically sort by modified, which I often used to find the newest files. I also remember hearing Windows automatically removing the "Shortcut to" from desktop shortcuts if you do it often, as a way of picking up on habits... but I never wanted the open file dialouge to change! |

If you have the details view, just click on the heading for what you want to sort by. If you click a heading twice, it switches to reverse order, and to change back to normal order, click the heading again. (If not, try switching to details by right-clicking and go to View -> Details, changing the setting, and switching back.) |

You can do that by simply picking the "Arrange by..." in the right-click menu twice, no need to use Details View ____________________ I dealt with it. |

I don't remember that menu having an option for switching between normal and reverse order...then again, I don't use Windows primarily. |

It doesn't have the option explicitly, it's set the same way that it is in details view. |

Posted by Xkeeper There is no "sort in reverse" option, for this reason ____________________ I dealt with it. |

That information doesn't help at all, I know how to arrange things already like that, and if you go to arrange icons by and select something, then do it again, it reverses. My problem is that normally the file open type menu is automatically set to arrange by type in normal order, but for some random reason it switched to automatically set it to arrange in reverse ABC order. If I open a new folder in the menu, it switches back. This causes lots of pain in searching... |

Maybe you should try e-mailing Microsoft about it. ____________________ I dealt with it. |

I know I've had that problem before, but I don't remember what I did to fix it...
I think it has something to do with how stuff is sorted when you open a file or something, much like how explorer/Internet Explorer keep the same size as the last time they were opened/closed. Try sorting it right, then opening something. If that fails, sort it right and then cancel. If that fails, I'm out of ideas. |
