I've been having a pretty difficult time trying to get this to work. I've had AT&T Yahoo DSL service for a few months now. I need to open port 8078 to get a game to work, but since I got this DSL, Windows Firewall isn't the used firewall.

I was wondering if anyone has this same internet service, you know, just to see if anyone has experience with how it works. I'll try to provide more information if you guys need it, just ask.

Well first, do you have a router?
Also, this should be in Computing, as this thread is for the board.

I realized that after I posted the thread. Someone can move this. :\

Yes, I have a SpeedStream 4100 series Router, if that helps any.

Try looking here

I don't see your specific router in the list, but more often than not, routers that have the same brand name tend to be the same, or similar to each other.

That's your DSL modem, not your router.

The router would be plugged into that device you list.

If there isn't, likely it's directly connected to one (read that, ONE) computer.

Either way, determine which and if no router is involved, look up the built-in firewall settings on your computer.

Otherwise, look for a second box plugged into your modem.

I can help you further if you tell me what your boxes are like.

Well hang on a second. There IS a such thing as a 2-in-1 modem/router. In fact, I use one.

However many techs assume I use the modem -> router setup, but I don't.

The only reason I call it a router, is the fact it's called the SpeedStream Router in my Network Places folder.

The game had a help file. It checked my connection and the only thing that failed was the port. Left me with the message, "Server 72.232.0.178 was found but port 8078 was not found, is this the correct port? also check if you are running a firewall!"

I swear I've checked everywhere for any form of a firewall and haven't found anything. Is there any way to find out what firewalls are running?

If it isn't the firewall, I figured it would be the SpeedStream Router.

The guy I talked to on the AT&T website didn't seem to help. Saying I needed to put the modem on bridge mode or something. Then he said it would disable my modem and cut me off the internet.

Correct me if I'm wrong on anything, by the way.

Try http://home/. It might work for you... I know it does for me. But, then again, I have a different router (2WIRE424).

Try it, anyway.

If that doesn't work, do "tracert 72.232.0.178" in a console. Make note of the IPs beginning with 192.168, they should be the first few. Enter each of those in your browser, and you should be at a modem/router's configuration page. The first will be the first router your computer connects to, the second is whatever that connects to, etc.
