I just got my wisdom teeth out monday, and I needed something to read so I picked this bad larry up...and well...I dunno.
It's reputation preceded it, and I'm not sure what I was expecting, but this wasn't it. I know it's all "serious" for a comic, but I just couldn't get into it. The primary source documents were boring, the Black Freighter comic did not go down easy for me. As for the plot...[spoilers]I mean, admittedly, they aren't super heroes per se, they're just guys in costume (except Dr. Manhattan). So as such, Ozymandias' plan just seems all the more rediculous. Dr. Manhattan I can swallow, because it's at least sort of science based, and although it is far fetched, it could happen, but the rest of the novel presents itself as so realistic, and yet the ending is an alien being teleported to NYC, inflicting major psychological damage?[/spoilers] I don't know if I truly liked it. I want to say that I did, but I was just left with a bad taste in my mouth. And of course, following in the footsteps of V For Vendetta, 300, and Sin City, they're going to make this into a movie (I know plans for it have been around forever), and let me just say...where the hell is the movie? |
