well... I've been mainly working on the overworld so far... and I just started it again in SMW redrawn...so I have to fix ALL the palettes
another thing.. the cool reverse shading in the special world doesn't work in redrawn at ALL... anyways, I'll post the screenshots I do have... and I'm having a heck of a time designing levels for this... I might need some help... I think yoshi's island looks the best ____________________ |

I saw the old thread and all I can say with the Redrawn GFX is...erm, they don't seem to go quite as well with your art style. Unless you're going for a weird screwed-up acid trip look like with the original hack, yellow shadows on coral-colored rock are hard on the retina.
Yoshi's Island is nicely laid out, better perspective than before, but somehow I don't like the really bright whitecaps on the dark water. And the Special World needs some new decorations or maybe a custom palette that works in Redrawn. Nice realistic use of height and elevation in the World 3 submap. All in all, I like the design, just can't say the Star World's palette is easy on the eyes And did someone puke on the rock on the right side of the Star World? Yeeewww. I like your ideas, this could be a totally new kind of hack. Go crazy--but use some common sense in level and GFX design! |

The levels here are:
yoshi's island 8-bit world Special Land (lol) (insert name for star world here) I'll fix up some of the palettes... I did this quickly to post some screenshots anyways... and my levels GFX will not be glitched at all EDIT: I forgot to fix the rock in the world 3 submap AGAIN? I'll do that right now ____________________ |

Common sense should be used indeed. Work on the palettes, they kind of sting my eyes.
You should also try to raise the islands off of the ocean's surface, and use decorations to avoid the large segments of empty space on the islands. |

The level layout of Yoshi's Island looks the same, and it's gotten very very old...
The rest is okay, but the palettes are too strong. |

Why does every single SMW hack include islands and stuff. Why water at all? Make it take place on a continent for Christs sake. ____________________ I miss post headers more. |

k, I'll fix up the palettes and then I'll make 8-bit world a land mass... world 8 is going to be a land mass too... I'm gonna make world 5 whispy woods
I think I'll have problems in the main area, i have to fit Planet Zebes, Hyrule, and some levels that use SMW graphics in there (replacing chocolate island) and I'll try to clean up the special world... ____________________ |

Posted by Sonicandfails I've seen "continent" overworlds before, although they tend to have a large lake in the middle. An overworld with little water would be pretty dull, me thinks. There aren't many land themes to choose from (two pallettes, limited decorations) so you'd have big fields that all look the same. |

Posted by JoshuaPosted by Sonicandfails Nice idea, but haven't you ever heard of PITMK2 and Return to Dinosaur Land? Those have continents. And RTDL has just one small lake and an ocean world. For decorations, just use ExGFX and you'll have something different for each world. And you can tweak submaps to use different palettes and graphics, so you can make each world have its own palette. |

Posted by Sonicandfails Easy, because that's what it's like in Japan. Take a good look at the map. ____________________ "I'm sick of it and I'm out. See you around." ~Cpu's last post here |

Posted by joePosted by Sonicandfails That was good for a quick laugh. I enjoyed it. As for the islands thing, I just think that people it's just a common idea. It also allows ____________________ |
