Well, I'm trying to install Fedora 7 on some old Compaq, and I'm trying to do a network install over the internet.
After sevral hardware issues (I hate the purple wire), I finally have no idea what to do. I enter the information for FTP or HTTP connections as requested by the installer, and it spends 5 minutes downloading a file. Then, it says "Unable to retrieve the install image." Help? Please? ____________________ "I'm sick of it and I'm out. See you around." ~Cpu's last post here |

Sounds like it just simple drops the connection after five minutes or so. What does it download the image down to, the HD? I would probably personally rather try a CD install... of course that requires a CD/DVD-burner. ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

I would do the CD install if 7 was available on CD-sized ISOs.
I would do the DVD install if I had a blank DVD-R and a DVD drive for the computer. On slower connections, the download takes longer, so I don't think it's simple. And I'm not sure where the file downloads to, but I can't hear it writing to the HD. Maybe RAM? ____________________ "I'm sick of it and I'm out. See you around." ~Cpu's last post here |

Posted by joe They don't have any cd-sized iso's available for Fedora 7. That just seems weird. I don't see why they would go that route, hell the entire Ubuntu Live CD fits on a single CD. Seems like Fedora/Redhat is only hurting themselves. Plus why not Ubuntu. I used to be big on Fedora, that is until Ubuntu was placed onto my harddrive, it'd take a lot for me to go back to anything else. ____________________ |

Posted by Xkeeper I'm well aware of how many cd's most distros take to install, I'm just surprised Fedora 7 (they dropped the core now) doesn't offer a cd install. Hell Vista even has a cd install availbable (5 cd's I believe). ____________________ |
