What. The. Fsck.

Racism has apparently become a bad word without people being actually opposed to it, so they act racist but cover it up by saying it's something else. Sheesh, if a person does well enough in high school to be awarded a diploma, they should get one.

I didn't go to graduation though, as I don't like pointless ceremonies that consist primarily of waiting. I understand graduation being important for some people, but not for me. I don't need recognition from a community that I permanently left three months later, and a diploma is a diploma.

Racism or not, that school is gonna get its ass sued off. If the kids worked hard for a diploma, they have every right to get one.

Shit like this happened over here, too. There was this school I heard of that during graduation, a few people cheered for their senior buddies graduating.

They were promptly expelled.

Wow... this is odd.

My last high school's vice principal, Tom Chiles (who left the school when he was passed over for the principal's job) is the principal there. From what I remember, he was a bit of a jackass, but I wouldn't expect him to uphold such a stupid policy. I'm bored, so I'm going to send him an angry email!

As I come from a major school in the area with over 2,000 students that actually encourages support and cheering with awards/etc, this news is absolutely absurd to me. I mean, what the hell. Idiots.

So basically 8 hours of community service for a piece of paper even though you've officially graduated.

I think you're allowed (since you can still go on to wherever you want to go) to tell the principal to fsck off after all that. EVERYONE at my high school graduation got cheered and it was expected.

Checked back on that with my mother locally...WHOI (channel 19, locally) was all over it apparently. Yea, Galesburg has to be loving it. You should be able to pull up the vid from it on CNN now.

Absolutely not. I spent all this year with a roommate (college) who was homeschooled his entire life, and he was the most ANNOYING person I've ever met in my LIFE, EVER, and I had to deal with him EVERY DAY, EVERY HOUR, EVERY MINUTE (except when he was away, as infrequently as that was) FOR THE WHOLE YEAR. Think 10 year old, but as an adult. ANNOYING!#@##!@#!$& Yeah, I've complained about him a lot. We certainly need less people like that. Social skills ftw.

But yeah, that policy is total bullshit, but I somehow am not surprised. Yes, as Americans, we're dumb, inefficient, and all sorts of other bad things. Stop rubbing it in.

Yeah, to be honest, I'm glad I'm not spending my childhood in this age...

The world sucks.
90% of all people are stupid as hell (this does not include those with mental illnesses like Autism or ... whatever other things there are out there like that).
If you don't believe me, watch a commercial .

I've known a few people who were homeschooled, but they didn't seem any weirder than usual. My impression of homeschooling is that it's generally done by religious nuts who don't want their children to know what evolution or something is. I know not all homeschooling parents are like that, but I've heard stuff like that in the news sometimes.

I was homeschooled, and I have a great social life.

Aside from spending too much time online, that is.

Well, in addition, he almost never hung out with anyone, so he just stayed indoors. No social development or anything.

Well either way, if you're homeschooled your whole life, you can still turn out normal if you have friends and hang out with people. He never really had friends or hung out with anyone, so, like I said, he had no chance for social development. I feel bad for him too, because that's not something that can be fixed easily... anyone who has to live with him will probably end up disliking him too.

I went to school and had no social life. It was mostly for the fact that a) I really -really- cared more about my studies than any other fucktwad that was going to the already small school that I was at and b) because I really didn't care anyways and it wasn't doing me any good aside from a few people that I still talk with to this day, which are few from Illinois but they do exist because they're intellectual enough for me to associate myself with them without feeling stupid with myself.

Honestly, my Internet -life- didn't really start for me until I found this board in 2002 and even then I was pretty shy and didn't really know how to express myself. Being able to express myself wasn't -exactly- related to how I was schooled.

Not to say that English, Speech (in college) and a few people in school that I know didn't help that...but I don't completely contribute my ability to type to them.

Considering how screwed up America's public schools are, I have absolutely no problem with home/private education, and applaud those parents who are willing to commit their time and energy to raising their kids right. I went to a small, private Christian school for the first 4 years of my education, and wish my parents could've afforded to keep me there. Middle and high school were probably the worst experiences of my life.

I think I must be the only one here who loved the schools I've been to (public).

Most awesome experiences of my life. But then again, me and my mates never actually did any work. We just messed around.

I remember about a month ago when me and a mate were being idiots in the common room, and I fell through the wall.

I once went to a private school and the some of the teachers CLEARLY had no idea what they were doing. They were disorganized, they would do nothing but talk with the seniors all day, and they didn't know to properly teach. Everyday a person would be missing from the school, and we would eventually find out that the persons parents hated the school and were thus taking their children to a public school.

It just goes to show that not ALL private schools are good. Although some of the teachers their were really awesome people who would even teach. The kind were you learn so much from that when you go home you start bragging about how much smarter you are than everyone. I'll miss 'em...

Although, this college is one of the many reasons why America has such a bad reputation... and it'll only get worse.

Fortunately, these students recently got their diploma thanks to legal action and a few good lawyers.

Which definition of public school are you using? I believe a UK "public" school is roughly equivalent to a US "private" school.

Really? The worst experience of my life was middle school in a small, private Christian school.
