Some schools have ridiculous rules that I've heard of. These range from getting in trouble for getting beat up (sometimes more trouble than the one who did it, even if it was unprovoked), to scapegoatism, to stupid substitutes, and more. But one Illinois school has one of the most ridiculous rules I have ever heard.

The rule is that if someone cheers for you when getting your high school diploma, you don't get it. This was clearly explained. But of course, this leads to obvious ways to exploit it ("It's not fair. Somebody could not like me and just decide to yell to get me in trouble."). Five students were denied their diplomas because of this, one of which was an honors student.

But wait! It gets juicier. There was cheering for other students too, not just the five (out of 2,000). However, the only five who were denied diplomas were either black or hispanic. None of the white students were punished, despite implications that there was little to no difference between the interruptions.. This naturally caused a little controversy.

Okay, racist or not, that's just retarded. "The audience is being disruptive, so we're gonna punish the student getting the diploma!" Oh, and eight hours of community service just to get a diploma you deserve even though it was someone else's fault. Yeah, THAT makes sense. If anything, they should find out who was cheering and punish THEM.

Of course, our school is so small that we don't even bother doing that. Only around 40-50 students graduate every year, so people get to applaud after each student.

EDIT: And if they can prove it's a case of racism, great. But it doesn't sound like they'll be able to do that very easily.

So all that hard work and no Diploma?

How to they find that even the least bit logical? Your life basically gets screwed the fuck over and it's all because they decided YOU should get punished because someone else decided to be supportive (or moronic, depending on their intentions). Do the people watching them get the Diploma even know about this rule? If not, how the fuck do they think it's going to be effective?

God dammit.

But... Sieg Heil? Wouldn't that be supporting this idiocy/racism? xD

Hitler ist schrecklich! xD

...Who the hell thought of that dumbassism?

It's bad over here.. but not that fucking bad.
I nearly got expelled from primary school due to such a thing, in fact.. the person who tried it didn't actualy like me.. nor did many, pointless bullying is what I got.. If I'd have been expeled. That'd have been it, I'd be a dumbass and not here now.

Oh god...Galesburg...I wouldn't put it past them.

I used to live in Peoria...and I can tell you that if you go over to Dunlap, which is as far away as Galesburg (maybe less) you will find one of the best high school in the state.

And then it gets compared to this shit. Illinois has had so many issues in curriculums these days it's not even funny. I'm glad I got the hell out of my school in that state, that's for sure.

what

This is by far the most ridiculous things I've read in months. I'm appalled.

I hate America. I'm sorry to those who go "omg dont juj it all on 1 plcae!!!!!!!!" because I've had it. I've heard of far, far too much bullshit from all over the damn country that I just was floored by. I've really had it with the way that country works. Nothing against Americans themselves, but the way that shit works down there is outright frightening.

That is retarded. People shouldn't have to take away your diploma just because some person cheered for you when you were getting your diploma. Especially if they're from a minority.

Y'know, I lived very close to there until a few years ago; grew up with fucking hillbillies like that for 16 years. This does not surprise me, as backwater Illinois can get pretty pathetic... the lack of significant minority presence in schools makes it a racism hotbed.

That's no joke; Illinois does not have as much a melting pot as other states and they can be downright mean and racist because of it. In the -small- school that I had (238 -total- in K-12) I knew of a grand total of two kids in the minority and they were black. I could almost name off everyone in the high school I went to the year I graduated.

At least I didn't have to put up with that bullshit in the backwater Greenview that I graduated from. The likelihood of them getting that uppity isn't likely because they only cared about sports...and guess what you do in sports? Needless to say, I didn't get the best edumacating in the world.

what

If my school had that rule I'd cheer for every single person. See how quick they realize "hey, this rule is fucking retarded".

My high school of 450-550 was all whites and Mexicans. I don't think there was a single black guy in the entire school.

If my school denied diplomas for cheering, there'd be about 50 kids out of 700 that would receive them. It's not even funny how much miscellaneous cheering goes on at the ceremony (which was earlier today by the way. )

I posted something in here earlier, but it's gone.

A smarter thing for them to do (oh wait, ANYTHING would be smarter than that ), would be to eject the people CAUSING the disturbance.

Email the fucktard principal at
tchiles@galesburg205.org

Also, I'm starting a project to bring as many people as possible to their graduation next year to cheer for every student.

Hell, someone set of fireworks during my brother's graduation.
