Take that route if you wish. I guess in terms of innovation, the only direction I've seen that perhaps is Microsoft's own is Speech to Text technology--accessibility I guess. I'm not sure if apple has it and it doesn't seem no flavor of UNIX has much support, if any.
Perhaps, speech to text will help a lot in terms of security for this new product Microsoft has released. |

Majority of inventions is using existing techs. It's just the way you put them together that counts.
Microsoft is not the only one doing multitouchscreens. However their way of doing it is different from their competitors from what I seen (metaphor, LCD and CRT works differently but both shows video output from computer).
