I am in need of a recommendation for good quality headphones. The ones you'd shell out more than $50 or more for. My new company is willing to reimburse me up to $300 for headphones because they want "to isolate office noise and promote productivity".

Does any one have any suggestions? I'm leaning toward headphones that are noise cancelling or have really good sound quality.

Those are some cool looking headphones.

Those are a tad expensive. I would suggest looking for Bose Triport headphones. They run from atbou $139-$189 and they have really great quality.

Except the Razers do the same shit as the BOSE and the BOSE doesn't have a microphone. Trust me, I have tried the Razer headset, it is godly.

He's looking for something for his office with noise cancelling. The in-ear headphones are only good for travelling.

I found something that is the exact same thing as the Bose I linked you to for half the price.

Other than that, if you want a microphone and something a little more basic, definetely go for the Razers. They seem like they are a really good deal. Unless you are using them for audio production, you won't need ultra high quality. I would still suggest the Altec Lansing, but it's up to you what you want in your headphones.

40mm neodymium...that's a good start. And they're Altec Lansings so that's a good start.

At that point, it's going to be a matter of what he listens to. If he's looking for high treble, go for something with a high-end pickup on frequency response (~25,000Hz or more, if you can find it). If you're looking for low-end on bass, 15 is the highest I would let slide. My Fontopias dip down to 6Hz.

Just as a side note on people looking for some style in their headphones and want to crank out a high-treble sound...Audio-Technicas usually do that. I call these the SAKURAphones.

Not so. In-ear monitors - which are generally pretty high-end, unlike cheap crappy earbuds - are where it's at when you want to shut out as much noise as possible. They even do a better job than noise-canceling 'phones. As Rich mentioned, Shure make some good ones, and so do Ultimate Ears. Check out their lineups if you absolutely need to cut yourself off from the outside world.

And if you don't like the idea of sticking something in your ear, or you don't actually need THAT much isolation, then I'd suggest full-size closed cans. My favorite of those is the AKG K271S - they're comfortable, they don't have that boxy sound that most sealed 'phones do, and they have decent isolation. "Decent" being quite passable - I stopped wearing mine in the office because I was missing phone calls. They exaggerate the lack of bass in that writeup... if the stuff you listen to is carried by the sub-bass, then it'll sound pretty weak, but I listen to rock all the time and it sounds just fine through my 271s.

Other options are the Beyerdynamic DT 250-80 and the Sennheiser HD-280 Pro. Out of those three, I'd say go with the AKGs if you value build quality and refined sound, the Beyers if you prefer a bit punchier sound, or the Senns if you want to save $100 and still get a rather nice set of 'phones.
