All I can say is wow. Found that on SlashDot with an associate at RS this morning. ~278 dollars estimated price, just announced.

Boots Linux and plays OGG in a 4GB package.

Wow... that looks nifty. I wouldn't use it for anything but a music player, but still...

Does seem like it would come in handy for some issues.

I'm definately buying one of those. That's exactly what I want in a portable device; plus I could do some serious wireless IRC with it.

All I'd need is a reasonable way to connect it via GRPS or something...

Either I'm blind or it doesn't list a maximum capacity.

2GB/4GB. The 4GB model will be the only one state-side when it gets released.

a 4GB OGG player?! *creams pants* I've been looking for an even better mp3 player to replace mine but I doubt it will happen.

B153 FTW baby. 153 hours of battery life on a single 4 hour charge

I had a similar idea a while ago. You take the hard disk (as you might a CD) from your computer and plug it into someone else's (public computers, most likely). This doesn't seem like a great implementation, being only 4GB. Also the OS needs to be designed to be able to run on any random system like a live CD. It's cool though.

What's stopping them from making bigger models to topple the iPod if sales are good?

I have a strong feeling that they likely didn't jump the 30 gig hurdle because of price.

THE iPods/IpOD-knockoffs ARE TAKING OVER!!!
So now there's a Linux media player thingy...? Next Microsoft will jump in saying "OH LOOK WE MADE AN IPOD TOO I MEAN WAIT IT ONLY LOOKS LIKE AN IPOD ITS REALLY ALOT DIFFERENT EVEN THOUGH ITS THE SAME" or someshit.
Oh well.

...NightKev... A bit behind the times, huh?

And more importantly, I'm fairly certain portable MP3 players existed before iPods.

(I also resent classing that entire market as "iPod-knockoffs".)

So... Essentially, it's like a brain slug for computers? Groovy, I think. Could see it coming in handy, but I'll probably not get one because I can't see it coming in handy for me in particular.

The Rio comes to mind, and it seems that the MPMan was the first.

...NightKev... A bit behind the times, huh? -Add "AGAIN" to the end of my sentence then

(I also resent classing that entire market as "iPod-knockoffs".) - Wasn't the iPod first? (as in, the first one to work like that) If not then oops oh well

I'd post a pic of my Chinese brand-name-less MP3 player that someone gave me, that looks almost exactly like an iPod (excuse to use my new camera ), but my FTP server is dead. There are portable players, and then there are iPod clones.

...Am I the only one who thinks of Wizpig when I hear this thing's name?

No, you're not alone. That's exactly what I thought. And for me, so far that's the only thing about this that caught my interest.

Nope. At first I thought it was Wizpig too, but then I saw the "y"
