My hack is called, Super Mario World: Adventures in Gorena Island, and for my last level for Lava Alley, I want a raising lava(like water tides that goes up and down), and mist to go along with it (Lava alley is underground), but I don't know how to add them both.

If anyone has any idea how to, it would be a blessing.

No screenshots yet, but hope to show you soon.

Rising/falling lava is easy--just put it on Layer 2 and use the Rise/Fall sprite to make it act like a tide.

Mist? Hard to say, cause I'm still learning how to play with tileset settings and remapping. Maybe you could copy the Ghost House tileset into an ExGFX file and replace the graphics there with your underground graphics? I'm not sure, but LM might think it's still a Ghost House tileset and allow mist on Layer 3.

If you've played DW:TLC (I'll be shocked if you haven't ) you'll remember the Misty Isle levels where Fu got mist to work in a normal grassland tileset. So I know it's possible...

I've seen it before with the mists, but haven't played it.

I'm doing this on one of the test levels on lunar magic, so how do I put layer 2 on it?

(Thanks for the rise and fall part)

Click the icon of Mario's face and go into the first dropdown menu. Look through the level header options till you find one that says "layer 2 level" in the line below.

The BG will disappear--don't worry, that's normal. The mist will act as a BG--on Layer 3.

One more question. Do u know SMW Hack called: The Second Reality Project 2 with the level Hot Ghost Cave? I want the lava to be like that.

EXACTLY my idea! I saw that level and realized it was a simple Layer 2 deal after a few minutes. Here's a YouTube link for comparison, with commentary on how it used Level 2:

Enjoy

BTW he used a translucency mode in the Mario icon menu (look for Layer 2 Translucent level and you're golden ) to make the lava see-through.

Good luck on your hack--that level sounds awesome! I've gotten a ton of inspiration from the TSRP series!

The name made me chuckle a bit, Gorena sounds much like... Gonorrea.

As for that bit on the video:

The levels look very linear, lacks variety. Plus I noticed alot of unnecessary upside-down ledges that function as nothing more than filler background objects.

What you might want to consider:

-A change in graphics including sprites.
-Improved palettes.
-Variety!
-Less linear level design.

Thanks Nothing like 9 months of random fiddling around with LM to learn where all the features are! Hacking eats up your life, but fuck, it sure is fun

Yeah, and I'm working on a hack right now that depending on my work ethic and whatnot, may be ready for a first demo by midsummer. I'll be looking for beta testers. Maybe you could be the first Acmlm'er to get a copy of my hack!

It's called Super Mario Alchemy: The Mushroom Elements. Here's a link to the thread on the old board, if you're interested:

WARNING: EXTREMELY OUT-OF-DATE SCREENIES AHEAD. Everything you see there has been changed at least 10%--and a lot has been totally redone, so don't recoil in horror yet

http://acmlm.no-ip.org/archive3/thread.php?id=9591

Enjoy

I wish you luck on your hack. If parts of your hack is completed, show them on YouTube sometime.

Best use of layer translucency I've seen in a long time. The placement of those note blocks and last few enemies is diabolical though.
