In order to map the final level in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, I need help. In case you haven't played it (and I highly suggest you do), Bowser's Castle is filled with boiling lava which casts a somewhat eery glow on the walls and floors. For example...
this screen is a composite of this... combined with this... which the VBA's map viewer shows as this... At first, I had no idea how to cause this effect. Then, I discovered a similar effect in Fireworks, but unfortunately, the effect (or rather, the map image) was so weak that it barely shows up at all, and even after multiplying the intensity of the glow four times, it still only produced half the amount shown in the screen. If I can't figure out how to work this, I may have to resort to taking screens of every single incident of the glow, which could lead to inconsistency, which could make the map look somewhat sloppy. So please, someone help. I'm so close to finishing! And this is the only thing from preventing it! |

Why not just leave out the glow ?
And all it is is additive blend, I'm sure. ____________________ I dealt with it. |

If I leave out the glow, it makes the castle sort of boringish. The glow adds to the effect of the place.
Do you know of a better way to do this additive blend? My way isn't working... |

Thanks for a waste of a reply, and technically this is the kind of thread that has no forum to go into (he's not hacking a ROM or anything). Hell, it could go in General Chat. ____________________ I dealt with it. |

I'm mapping Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.
...wait, you're new here... Uh, welcome? Anyway, Xk, do you have Fireworks or a similar program? I figure the best way for me to get the effect to work is somehow intensify the colors in the glow layer. Anyway I can do that? If I can do that, then Fireworks's effect should be fine. |

This person knows of "It is a mystery".
You are not new. Also, what seems to be the problem? You have the picture right there... I don't quite understand what you are having trouble with when you have part of it right there. ____________________ I miss post headers more. |

1 word, photoshop, it would work nice for that, it has transparency settings, and layer modes. ____________________ |

Posted by SonicandfailsThe light flickers. He wants it to be completely consistent, so doing it one piece at a time is probably extremely irksome. Peardian: Assuming Fireworks has the same blending options as Photoshop (it's been too long, sorry), it seems to work best if you set the blending style to Linear Dodge, 100% opacity. For comparison... Your image: Composite: The colors aren't quite perfect, but decently close. And tyty210, just because you've never heard of it doesn't mean that Fireworks doesn't also support that. I'm fairly certain it has, even since the version I had several years ago. |

I know fireworks supports it, it's just I haven't used fireworks many times, and I'm too used to photoshop, so thats what I suggest to people, but either would work I guess, besides adobe owns both now, so theres probably gonna be a fireshop, or photoshop and fireworks fused or something like that. ____________________ |
