I blathered about this a while ago, but I don't think I ever got around to posting the latest batch of pictures. The floor renovation made our place feel like a brand new house.

Our new living room furniture and hickory floor, which was installed in the living/dining room, hallway, and both bedrooms. I'm still picking out an area rug for this part of the room. We ordered the furniture from Comfy 1. It wasn't cheap, but it is ridiculously comfortable and designed to last for years. And their customer service is ace. A++++ WOULD BUY AGAIN

The octagon and dot bathroom floor, which used to be grubby vinyl and pink carpet. The green tile surround is original to the house and actually mortared into the wall. I want to update the counter (laminate with assorted perma-crud all over it) and cabinet (dingy-looking with noticeably off-kilter doors and flaking foiled PLASTIC hinges), but that'll have to wait until the floor is paid off.

Your cord's hangin' out.

Otherwise uh...can I get back to you in about ten years to get my own place, the funds and a way to one-up you? Because I sure as heck don't have an apartment that looks nearly that nice. Now I will say it's -spacious- and clean!

It looks nice. I'm jealous. Go die now.

I second that option. You have very good taste. But the words "you are not your....*insert item here*" comes to mind.

I agree on the taste part. Looks very homely without looking old-folk-sy, if you know what I mean.

And I don't think Fight Club mentality really applies to decorating a house after you get married... there's certain limits to it.

PS. I applaud you for attempting to use the phrase "Pimping the crib" here, but all you've done is remind us all how horribly suburban we are.

Ha ha ha.

I live in a lease-rent apartment in Chinatown, I'm hardly suburban.

Nice floor!!
I also agree with everyone, you have great taste! It's nice that everything actually *matches*, unlike in my house.

It looks fabulous, very nice.. Though I might suggest placing something behind the television there, perhaps a tall lamp or a plastic tree.. Or you could try hanging something like a small fern down from above there.. Anything to cover up the empty space the corner leaves.

Really quite good taste you have in any event, I like it a lot.

All that does is remind me of how messy my house is. Especially since it's made of Ice Cream.

Pleasant, I suppose, but far too barren for my tastes. Also, it\'s really clean, which inspired me to clean my room!

I live in vanilla dome...

Actually... I'd have to say my place is a lot nicer (though it wasn't my money nor work that went into that ) minus the hardwood floors. ;D

The wood floors on the first one seem really nice, but in general it looks way too... clean for me. as in I'd feel guilty if I came home all drunk and messed anything up

Thats my weird way of saying "it looks good"

It looks great, but I'll never like having hardwood floors somewhere that's not meant for special occasions. It's similar to what Setz is saying, except replace coming home drunk with, doing stuff, anywthing really. I feel guilty just walking on hardwood floors.

Thanks to all who like the look and offered suggestions. Sorry, we don't quite have the space for an Acmlmboard rooming house. I didn't notice the blank space above the TV until Krisan Thyme pointed it out. I'll probably hang some framed piece of art (nothing ridiculously expensive, just something that appeals to me) up there.

The table usually doesn't look that clean. I cleared it off for the photo. We generally have a few empty pop cans, a stray Wiimote, and a book or two sitting there. And it would take a lot to permanently mess up the place. We have active cats, and we like to come home and relax and have people over to hang out, so we picked everything out with durability and low maintenance in mind.

The furniture is made to take a beating. The fabric is 100% polyester, which doesn't really stain, and it could be replaced cheaply if it ever got that messed up. With proper maintenance, good quality solid hardwood floors will last the lifetime of the house. One reason we picked hickory is that it's especially tough and does not dent easily, and the floor has a durable surface finish that can be lightly sanded and recoated every few years to get rid of shallow scratches. People regularly walk around with shoes on, and our cats rampage and slide on the floor with their claws out. None of that has hurt it at all. As long as you sweep frequently and never drag furniture without putting felt pads or soft coasters underneath the legs, hardwood should look great for a long, long time.

TheLesserBlackDope6x - Got any pics of your place?

Right now I'm living in student housing - which is absolutely atrocious. Next year I am going to continue living in student housing, but at a reduced cost. Then, once I have some money saved up, I am getting a single bedroom apartment.

I know I'm going to get bitched at for picture quality of this and this.

I would have taken pictures of the Kitchen had it not been messy at the time I took these.

Also, I retract my prior statement where I said "my place is much nicer" because... well, my place can get messy much easier, and is not consistently clean all the time.

Edit: Both are about 600 x 450, at about 650 kb.

The deer head and the bear add too much of a rustic-corny touch.
