I haven't seen much development, not sure if it's laziness or just lack of ideas and coding skill... yawn....

I'm pretty sure it's mostly laziness.

How did the original boards get so developed and feature-rich in the first place?

On the other hand, I'd prefer the dev staff to add few features but do it properly, rather than add useless crap in a dirty way.

Suggestions...

1- Have a bug/suggestion tracker site like before.

2- I don't have much free time, but maybe I could help with one thing or two, if that could help... Unless you want to avoid having too many different developers on team, to prevent the sources from becoming a mess again... Although you guys could double check contributions, and fix them if needed.

Both of you have conflicting views about what changes to do, and stuff ?
If that keeps you from making progress, then that sucks.

That's why it'd be nice if Acmlm was a bit more active, be it only to decide what's to be done, even if he doesn't touch the code himself... Or he could choose someone in the team to do that for him.

Blackhole89 does not care about human readability. I do.

This basic concept -- as well as his inability to think about other options before running and implementing the first idea that hits him* -- causes a natural clash between us.

Acmlm would be nice to have around, yes, but unfortunately he refuses to involve himself and my questions as to wether he would or not tend to go unanswered.

* The "flags" in onlineusers uses one query per IP it looks up, which can easily lag the MySQL if you try asking for a lot of users with a high "time".

The idea I got within seconds of his notifying me of how it worked (not the potential exploit above) was "look it up when the user browses a page and store it with the user IP instead".

Further ideas would be "look up only if loguser['ip'] != REMOTE_ADDR", which would save another query whenever it did not change.

But my biggest problem is still his implementation of editpost. It's just too broken to fix right now.

Yeah, readability is indeed very important, especially in a group project, that's one of the basics of programming...
However, hopefully readability doesn't prevent optimizing... But anyway, whatever blackhole does, he could just comment the hell out of his code if necessary, so that others may understand it and improve it if needed.

I mean especially with database schematics. He has no problem mashing things together, requiring complex queries to read. I prefer having everyting nicely organized and easy to edit.

I love being organized as well.

Example:

## -/- Required Files -\- ##

require 'whatever.ext';

## -\- Required Files -/- ##

That's just a very glim example.

Yeah, I try to make my code as readable as possible, because any time I don't, I end up coming back to it and wondering how the hell it was supposed to work.

Just an example:

In his method, the different revisions would be sorted through the query used to select posts.

In my method, they would be sorted out beforehand, so the query would be simpler.

In the link, you can see the current code (top) and what it would be reduced to (bottom).

He's called blackhole for a reason. 'Cause that looks like a black hole of post data to me. At least, his version.

I like blackhole's method better.

Why having stuff in separate tables when they contain the same data? :/ That's just stupid.
