So I use an old PC. So what.

The thing is, should I consider upgrading, or just use it as-is?

It's an old Gateway Astro with a celeron processor and a 4gig HD. 64meg RAM max.

It can use my flash drive and the CD-Burner works sometimes, so I was wondering if it is still worth my time. Maybe someone else can shed some light on the subject...

Gateway Astro? Hey, at least it's not an Emachines eOne.
I say turn it into a DOS box for games, but that depends on the quality of the sound card. Fortunately, Pentium II level can emulate several systems. I think it can even do "Nintendo Sixty Four!!!!" if it had an nvidia graphics card.

I wouldn't waste your time upgrading; for the same price you can probably just get a much better used PC. Don't get rid of it, though. you never know when you want an old PC for some odd reason

If it suits your needs and is in good working order, keep it and save the money you'd spend on a new one. If it's too slow or many parts are malfunctioning, might as well buy a new one. If you like old games and have space, keep the old one too, as new computers generally have trouble playing older games.

Then again...only 4 gigs? Sure, once upon a time it was enough, but the 4GB HD I had in 2002 was painful.

Vista > 6GB so you won't be getting that anytime soon (unless you get Acmlm's slimVista ). Anything from 2001+ most likely will take up too much space/ram for you to use it.

Man if your computer is such junk, just ask around for anyone who has an old computer that they aren't using anymore or throwing out. I just recently got a 1.1 Ghz Athlon, 35 GB Hard Drive, 256 MB of RAM, and a 64 MB GeForce 2 that someone was throwing away. What can I say, the computer is old, but it's still very useful in my book. Last year I got a 900 Mhz Pentium III machine that had this cool Composite In card and a DVD-ROM. Basically just ask around, im sure someone is throwing a computer out, someone is always throwing useful things.

If you really get desperate, go dumpster diving at apartment complexes, I've found computers in there before.
